Where will Jimmer go?

Post by _Bond James Bond »

The NBA draft is tonight! (And the lockout starts a few days after that but I digress).

The Jazz are picking 3rd (and 12th but I don't think he'll fall that far) and while the popular opinion is that they'll take someone from the University of Kentucky (Brandon Knight or Enes Kanter) my heart tells me, they gotta take Jimmer right? I think they should either:

1) Pick him

or

2) Trade down a couple slots and PICK HIM

This pick would guarantee sell outs for the next three to five years. Even if he gets shutdown in the pros by players a cut above the Mountain West Conference (like I know he will) it makes sense in terms of community harmony as well as good business. Come on Jazz!

Where will he be picked? How will he do in the NBA?

Lol. I pretty much agree. I think his shooting ability will keep him in the league as a 2nd unit shooter type, but I think too many NBA teams look at the 30 ppg average and expect him to be a real player (the same thing happened with Adam Morrison and even JJ Redick of Duke who was playing much tougher competition in the ACC). He'll probably find a niche but will only be useful for a few years of moderate service. Anyone who drafts him in the lottery will be overpaying for him though.

He's going to the warriors with the new coach, Jackson.

That is my prediction and I am sticking to it. The question, as we all know, is whether he can play defense, and stay out of foul trouble at the same time.

Maybe.

NBA teams rarely make picks based upon regional favoritism. The Jazz don't need to fill seats.

Low first round/high second round.

Every projection I've seen has him going in the lottery. I agree he should slide down to a better team in the late first round that needs a spot up shooter.

He would do better on the fun and gun Warriors I agree.

Same problem with most gunners. Defense and he's not much of an athlete compared to many of the players who'll be guarding him. Athleticism is just as important on offense in terms of creating shots for himself, which I think he'll have serious problems with.

Hello,

The bottom line is this: Picking The Jimmer would energize the market for the upcoming season. The Jazz aren't going to contend for a title any time soon, there aren't any Bigs this year that stand out, and there just isn't any one guy that's available anywhere that could help the Jazz contend for a title. I'd pick The Jimmer because the market demands it, and work the Free Agent market & Europe to see if I could scrabble together a competitive product. Let's face it, if a Big Name Guy has a choice he isn't looking at 6 months of snow versus Florida/California.

I agree the Jazz could be in trouble this year as they go through a mini rebuild after losing their point guard Williams. This draft is fairly lame with no big talents (even the consensus top 2 have question marks). Jimmer would be guaranteed sell outs for at least a season.

My sympathies to the Seattle Sonics situation. That whole thing stank. And yet New Orleans continues to have a team.

Hello,

Go figure. I can't believe King County didn't build the Supersonics (not the Sonics, by the way) an arena. I truly believe well-built, lavish arenas end up paying for themselves many times over. One can't overestimate the value for one's city vis a vis television and marketing when it comes to an NBA franchise.

Oh, well. I'll always have the Sounders. ;)
