Changing the subject when your position is weak, and you have no argument.

L'habitude.

Where's that Master's Thesis, Simon?

Doctor Scratch wrote:Your reply was made in response to my comment, Dan. Was it not?

It was.

I suggested that you desist from your attempt to turn the thread about Mercury's family problems into one attacking "mopologetics," and I promised that I would stay out of it.

Doctor Scratch wrote:If that was the case, then *you* would have stepped in to call Simon on the carpet.

You're a sophist, Scratch.

You were interested in turning the thread toward Simon and "mopologetics," but I was not. It was about Mercury's family woes, and your obsession had no place in it.

Doctor Scratch wrote:Face it: you weren't popping into the thread in order to play the role of neutral and objective moderating influence.

That's exactly the role I played. And you yourself stayed out of the thread. You gave up your attempt to turn the subject toward your obsession.

Mission accomplished.

That's not true, of course, and it's also not the subject.

LOL. What a disingenuous loon you are.

I told you, I'm a high school dropout and work as a Sanitation Specialist at a middle school.

Dan, I said my peace on the thread and that was that. You did nothing to try and correct Simon or anything of that nature. End of story. Simon was in chat later that night and his question was universally panned as being inappropriate and insensitive.

Meanwhile, here you are, up first thing in the morning to fire off yet another rage-fueled post. What is it that you think you're accomplishing, Dr. Peterson? Do you really genuinely believe that you're salvaging your online reputation?

Let me ask you this: What would do more to help your Internet reputation--pounding out yet another insult-laden post to me, or working to get your malignant correspondence removed from SHIELDS? Think about it for a moment. You've been told by a lot of believing Latter-day Saint apologists that you should quit arguing with me. the narrator told you this. LifeOnaPlate told you this. What, are you ignoring them because they're younger? Or because you think they're wrong?

LOL. Who's been stalking whom for five straight years?

Doctor Scratch wrote:What is it that you think you're accomplishing, Dr. Peterson?

I'm illustrating, irrefutably, your willingness to slander and misrepresent me.

Granted that this is a tiny corner of cyberspace, it still seems worthwhile. And, this time, you've definitely served up an unusually big, fat, slow pitch softball falsehood. Quite gratifying, really.

Doctor Scratch wrote:Do you really genuinely believe that you're salvaging your online reputation?

I think that demonstrating your dishonesty here on your home turf has been worth the minimal effort it required.

Doctor Scratch wrote:You've been told by a lot of believing Latter-day Saint apologists that you should quit arguing with me. the narrator told you this. LifeOnaPlate told you this.

And they have a genuine point. You're small potatoes, and you're apparently beyond help. (That is, you understand, what they've told me. It doesn't exactly redound to your credit.)

Doctor Scratch wrote:What, are you ignoring them because they're younger? Or because you think they're wrong?

I'm not ignoring them at all.

Don't flatter yourself that you'll always have my attention.

In fact, this satisfyingly clear illustration of your malice and your dishonesty has accomplished a great deal, and makes further interaction with you considerably less pressing than it already was.

Atta boy, Dan. Revenge is such a noble thing.

I hate to break it to you, but you "demonstrated" no such thing. All you've demonstrated is your usual intransigence and neuroses.

That's fine, Dr. Peterson. Feel free to shovel on whatever insults you want. If you think this is accomplishing something---hey, who am I to argue? I'll just repeat what I've already said, which is that quite a few LDS have told you to let it go. That you're ignoring these repeated entreaties is your own choice, of course.

Lol So says the guy who claims he doesn't deal in character assassination and/or smear campaigns. (And who claims he doesn't find "satisfaction" in doing so.) Thanks for proving my point!

It's not "revenge," Scratch. (Not with me, anyway. You, by contrast, seem to be attempting to avenge some injury that you imagine I've done to you, or to Mike Quinn, or, in some way, to both of you.) It's clarification.

I think it's good that, whenever they see you make an accusation against me, people know how seriously to take it.

Doctor Scratch wrote:That's fine, Dr. Peterson. Feel free to shovel on whatever insults you want.

You poor injured innocent!

It's "satisfying" in the sense that it makes my task easier, which is simply to demonstrate that you're so crazed with malice that you either can't represent me accurately or flatly choose to lie about me -- and that, accordingly, what you say should typically be regarded as very dubious.

I can't "smear" you, Scratch. You're anonymous. I can't defame you or assassinate your character. You're just a pseudonym on a message board. This situation is starkly assymetrical: You've devoted half a decade of your life to slandering me, publicly, by name, from behind a cunningly maintained and very thick curtain of anonymity.

Is that what you want, Scratch? Are you an advocate of free speech? And you've been criticising Simon, and Nemesis? Lots of "malignant" things have been said by both critics and defenders. So what if defenders went around the Net demanding that all "malignant" correspondence, essays, articles by critics be removed? Would that be a fair deal?

Dr. Peterson,

I hope you save this thread to some local storage device for you and your posterity.

Edit: also you should contact Stan Barker and put it on SHIELDS.
