What are you referring to, when you say "media"? Garbage? Influence?
What are you referring to?
The media in the US is corporate owned and being corporate owned the corporate controlled media supports a particular ideology: free market capitalism. Regardless if it is Fox or MNBC or whatever, they support the dominant ideology. The illusion of a democratic media is just that an illusion.
The garbage that they give the american people is steep and deep. Reality TV, mind numbing sitcoms, celebrity talk shows, discussion programs that never challenge the dominant ideology are all apart of the undemocratic media.
I intend to lay a foundation that will revolutionize the whole world. Joseph Smith We are “to feed the hungry, to clothe the naked, to provide for the widow, to dry up the tear of the orphan, to comfort the afflicted, whether in this church, or in any other, or in no church at all…” Joseph Smith
I don't think it makes any sense to say Democrats favor privatized morality. All laws have moral foundations, and Democrats favor plenty of laws. Democrats aren't out there arguing for the legalization of murder.
But, you might say, Democrats only are concerned with moral questions that entail harm to others. Democrats don't want to regulate private moral decisions that do not infringe upon others' rights.
Uh, what Democratic party have you been watching? Not only are Democrats not out there advocating for the end of the drug war, legalizing prostitution, etc. there are also plenty of stereotypically liberal bugaboos that involve regulation of voluntary, private decisions, such as banning smoking in private establishments, curtailing fast food advertising, or seat belt laws. Paternalism is extensive in the party.

Informed people? Hardly. The informed people gave us the current economic crisis where hundreds of thousands, if not millions have lost their homes and jobs. The unconditional support for the free market capitalist economy is mind numbing by our informed people.

I don't see what any of that has to do with the gay agenda. I don't think I've seen any gay reality tv, nor any gay sitcoms. I guess you could say Ellen was a gay celebrity, but her show doesn't overtly push the gay lifestyle or agenda.
So how does that all play in with the new law in NY?

It looks as if you're economically liberal and socially conservative?

Conclusion
Throughout their history television sitcoms have held a mirror up to society, and in that mirror they have reflected the presence of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered people, often in distorted and unflattering ways, but occasionally in ways that acknowledge our humanity and complexity. Although sitcoms have long relied on problematic stereotypes for their humor, as the decades have progressed television viewers in general and queer viewers in particular have demanded a more varied palette of characters. By watching "classic TV" reruns alongside current television offerings, viewers can easily perceive crucial shifts in the representation of homosexuality and homosexuals. In the future, increasingly funny and honest queer portrayals in television sitcoms are likely.
When the american public watches tv and the sitcoms are saturated by the gay lifestyle in a positive way, it will have an impact on how americans view the gay lifestyle.
But it should be understood that the reason for showing the gay lifestyle on sitcoms is to soften american attitudes toward the gay lifestyle by bringing the gay lifestlye into their living rooms.
The corporate media is concerned about perserving the capitalist system but it is also basically amoral. As long as there are not protests or product boycotts they will present the american public with mindnumbing broadcasting and TV shows and movies. Hollywood where the gay presence is strong made a concerted effort to bring homosexuality into the mainstream.

Heaven forbid that people realize the human-ness of their gay neighbors.
Good grief.

Liberal and conservative are distortions. Most liberals in the US and most conservatives in the US support the capitalist system. To be economically liberal still makes for a person who supports the capitalist system.
I do see social conservatism as a plus but not in economics. We are now in an age where traditional values are being challenged by a postmodern minority. There has been an oceanic shift in values not just in america but also in europe. Is this a good thing? Only time will tell.

It has very little to do with humanness. But much to do with pushing an agenda. And that was my point. The american public was softened by the recent sitcoms because these sitcoms brought the gay lifestyle into their living room. Hollywood had an agenda and they have did very well in pushing it.

You have an interesting set of seemingly conflicting beliefs, why me. Thank you for having the courage to share them. I gather that you think that being gay is immoral. Or is it only the act of demanding equal treatment while gay that you find morally reprehensible?
