Smack down from On High.... take that Bcspace

Post by _3sheets2thewind »

From Sltrib:

Also, it says those part-time leaders choosing to be involved in politics should not imply “that their actions or support in any way represent the church.”

Bcspace you'll have to drop the republican or hell line.

I've never given that line (not being a Republican) and I've never involved myself in politics other than voting. I've never specifically stated in Church that a Democrat cannot be a good Mormon, rather, I've let others draw that conclusion. It's more exhaustive to go down the list of left-wing doctrines one by one in negative comparison to LDS beliefs, but it make for good practice.

For example, I recently explained in Church how the LoC requires free market/capitalism to work and is not a form of Christian socialism.

Outside the Church venue, I freely state that a Democrat cannot be a good Mormon. It's too obvious a truism to back away from. To be a Democrat means one is in direct opposition to fundamental LDS doctrines of agency and personal responsibility not to mention various moral stands.

If I were running for office and someone asked "Can you explain/confirm this Mormon/Democrat stand?" I would simply run down the list of comparisons and rhetorically ask if someone was diametrically opposed to the beliefs of a group, would that person be a good member of that group?....and let them draw their own conclusions as to wehter the answer is yes or no.

You're right.

Of course, the same is true of republicans.

There is nothing in the Republican platform or most other conservative parties that is contrary to LDS doctrine. Once you go liberal or left wing, you're not in LDS territory anymore.

Creating tax shelters for the wealthy which the poor cannot enjoy has LDS doctrine written all over it? It's wrong to use compulsion on finances, but okay when it comes to drugs, or prostitution?

You are right on this one. That Hugh B Brown was a terrible Mormon. Don't know why they let him pretend to be a leader of any kind.

Turning a blind eye when they are led astray by the worldly philosophy of defending greed, eh? Might be better to tell them to hold to the iron rod and head for the golf course.

That's correct, as long as you skip the New Testament (not a problem for many Mormons like you)

Hugh Nibley.

Not a good Mormon.

Got it.
