So I'm about 2/3rds in. This is incredibly geeky stuff.

The studio was pretty packed, and the highlight of the show is when John mentions the "Silverbacks at FARMS" and everyone has to scramble to cover their mouths.

I just finished listening to it. Excellent! Thanks for the shout-out, Dr. Shades!

A couple of points/thoughts:

--The actual number of sites that was listed on that BYU website/blog was 1,500 (not 15,000).
--Who is the LDS apologist who just finished grad school that Larsen called an "asshole"? Is this Maklelan? LoaP? Given that Larsen noted this person racking up some "20,000 posts" in a very short time, my inclination is to assume that he was talking about our dear old friend LifeOnaPlate.
--I feel like the characterization of FAIR was just a bit *off*. I'm probably going off on a bit too much of a tangent here, but the evolution of FAIR would be a worthwhile topic in and of itself. I.e., that it started out by essentially trying to encroach upon SHIELDS' territory, and then they got nervous and decided to get rid of their messageboard, etc. They started out as something much more akin to SHIELDS and nowadays I would almost say that they've evolved into something that is less hostile and aggressive than the Maxwell Institute.
--I sort of think you can't discuss the history of all this without mentioning SHIELDS. I don't want to tread on any toes, but I believe that one of my colleagues here at Cassius has developed a rather persuasive theory that SHIELDS helped to make and establish the careers of at least a few key Mopologists. So, one can't neglect SHIELDS's role in all of this.

A really enjoyable podcast overall, though.

And by the way, John--- You mentioned there being a "Mormon Expression" board... Where is that, exactly? What's the URL?

I assumed he meant LoaP with the 20k post list.

I was disappointed that the aol religion folders were not mentioned. There was a Mormon folder, and Mormons and exmormons fought constantly. It was divided later into two folders, but by then Eric split off to create a private email group. I joined that private email group in 1996. That email group is what later became RFM.

I was not online during the days of the aol religion folders, but heard all about it on the email group.
