Do I *HAVE* to use a filter?

Post by _Scottie »

Seems like our A/C air flow is painfully slow. It hardly can keep up with cooling our house. The filter is really dirty, and if I remove it, the air flow increases significantly. Other than air quality, do I really need a filter?

Before 9-11, I would have said no...

But you can't be too sure these days.

Aren't new filters like $3 at walmart?

If it is dirty, why don't you replace it?

I am, it's just an odd size. They don't sell it at Home Depot or anywhere that I can find. I have to order it online.

Just wondering if it's okay to run without it for a week or so.

Run it without the filter til you get a new one.

Why not use an air gun and blow it out and use it til then new one arrives?

Isn't it odd that Home Depot has every conceivable repair item except the one I need?

I think you're OK with running the air conditioner without a filter. You may find that you have to dust more often.
This, or any other post that I have made or will make in the future, is strictly my own opinion and consequently of little or no value.

For what it's worth, the filter is there to protect the unit.

Thank you! This is what I was asking.

So, don't run without a filter. Gotcha.
