Even though BC and I have gone toe to toe on many issues, he is a solid supporter of free speech, and would be a good Mod, in my opinion.

BC has been here almost since the beginning. He has tolerated endless abuse (from me too), and weathered the storms of contrary opinion for more years than anyone would care to count, yet he has never flinched nor posted a "see you later" thread (which I have). Even though he's a "TBM", he's one of the enduring icons of this board, and no slave to "popular opinion", whether it be ex-Mo or "TBM", and has even criticised Dr. Peterson. He's not afraid to be at odds, even with his "own kind".

I think we have found our "TBM" moderator. JMO.

BC would be fine as long he doesn't re-define the board's doctrine of moderation.

But really, he can tell an F-bomb from common sense posting as well as anyone. I think the real issue for almost any candidate is whether they have the time and are willing to do all the work.

The doctrine is whatever's officially published in the code er.....guidelines. Aren't there only two guidelines listed at the top?

1. Liar!
2. Heathen!

I think we have found our "TBM" moderator. JMO.

I appreciate that.

But seriously, I'm not sure if I'd notice everything or have the time to look at every post. I'd have to think about it.

One thing I'd like to have clarified (if I were to go forward with moderation) is what emphasis is gonna be placed on making sure people report posts they find objectionable, rather than expecting mods to try and spot every single 'wrong-doing' in every single post on the board!

As far as I'm concerned, if someone didn't care enough about a post to officially report it, then they shouldn't complain about it later if mods happen to miss it...

Uh, I would not vote for most of the ex-Mos on this board. I would also vote for people like asbestosman, Nevo, and Wiki Wonka, were they thrown into the candidate pool. Maybe none of those guys is interested? You raise a good question, Ray A.

I agree, I think he'd be well suited as mod.

EA has shown an interest and I think he'd be fair.

I wish Shades had specified no comments in these polls because so much extraneous comments have been posted and I would have preferred to see a simple voting process take place. That said, I want to add my own extraneous comment. :-)

Other posters have expressed a willingness to volunteer and I don't know if they did so via PM's or just posted this on the board. Cam, EA, Belmont, asbestosman and I have all volunteered.

I can't tell if Shades is aware of that or if he plans to do additional polls. I also am not aware if Shades has stipulated for example, an acceptable percentage of votes from which he will choose.

It seems a bit confusing....

:-)

ETA: There was also some discussion about madeleine as a possible candidate. I don't recall her replying to that.

Adding a separate comment...I've heard from some posters who refuse to vote in the polls because they think (if I am representing them accurately) that this amounts to a popularity contest and (again, if I am representing them accurately) that Shades should just choose on his own which volunteers he would accept as moderators.

Personally, I am in favor of the poll system. I think it lends more transparency to the process and while it does seem like a popularity contest, I think the transparency is worth the effort.

Just my 2cents...

Shades has not shared with us exactly how his final decisions will be made, or even if he will poll all of the candidates he is thinking about. It could be that he is simply polling certain candidates that he wanted to gain some public opinion on.

I would suggest that anyone who is serious about volunteering for Mod send Shades a PM. Even if you have volunteered publicly on the board, send Shades a PM. That way, he will know, without a doubt, that you are interested.

And, for the record, Jersey Girl, I would definitely support you as a Mod. I was sorry you left last time. ;-)

I think Shades should pay attention to both the polls and comments (I haven't voted, and won't be), but in the end he needs to get on his knees and receive a revelation (insert smilie here).

PS: I like your sig.line.
