The present Prophet is Thomas Spencer Monson. Let me enlighten you: Thomas S. Monson.

Now continue on with your derogatory comments about everything Mormon, the Church that you "love".

I didn't mean to be offensive or aggressive or anything. I asked that mainly in response to your comment about Mormonism being a "prophetic" movement. Know what I mean? Who, in these latter days, is dispensing the "prophetic" ideas? Is it really T. S. Monson, in your view?

In 1975 I listened to the then Elder Monson speak for four hours non-stop, in an obscure chapel in South Sydney, and then lined up to shake his hand. I also read his book Pathways to Perfection: Discourses of Thomas S. Monson.

What do you have to offer, Scratch, except innuendo and accusation? What positives do you have to offer the world? Life is short, my friend, and I'm having less and less time for faith-destroyers like you. Dr. Shades should also give serious contemplation to the fact informed people like me are well aware of ALL the controversies and problems, and we, yes WE, haven't written off Joseph Smith. I can think of nothing less admirable than to see Mormonism descend into some kind of "Scratchian" version of Universal Relativity, a CoC version of "truth". But have at it. Continue your misguided campaign, and I hope you sleep well at night knowing that you are a faith-destroyer, in things that you know nothing about, nor have even the slightest faith in. You and harmony should have lunch sometime.

We know a man who was notorious about 6-7 hours talks, called Fidel Castro.

OK, our children say my associative memory were pathologically oversized...

- To assert that the earth revolves around the sun is as erroneous as to claim that Jesus was not born of a virgin. - Cardinal Bellarmine at the trial of Galilei

If you're trying to associate Elder/President Monson with Fidel Castro, then you're truly infected with the same virus many on this board have, which is an irresistible compulsion to take every opportunity to crap on Mormonism. Sorry, but I couldn't put it any more "tactfully".

jon, in my case that is a wrong assumption. Call me a "Whitmerite" if you like; it probably fits better. What the Church leaders say or think isn't necessarily "gospel", in my opinion.

Ray, in a different thread you posted the above paragraph to explain to me that you weren't an active believing Mormon.
In this thread you seem to be taking a different position?

I'm not, and have no intention of ever being active or on the rolls again. I'm a Universalist, so go figure. This might help you:

I believe in the fundamental Truth of all great religions of the world. I believe they are all God given and I believe they were necessary for the people to whom these religions were revealed. And I believe that if only we could all of us read the scriptures of the different faiths from the standpoint of the followers of these faiths, we should find that they were at the bottom all one and were all helpful to one another. - M K Gandhi

I'll frankly say, that though I was once sadly a part of it, I personally feel that the negativity and Mormon-bashing on this board has had its day with me. I have decided to refrain from encouraging, or taking any further part in it, but I understand that many need this "outlet" (I once did). That's just me. I'm at another stage, sort of like "the man in the middle" (remember that, because I'm not Mormon), and think I understand how both ex-Mos and Mormons feel, but I think it's rather pointless to overdo the criticism on just about everything thinkably Mormon. It gets tiring, but I think I know the answer - read less, and post less (and this will be my only post today).

I once told the late Eugene England, many years ago, that I could never rejoin the "Mormon party", which made him a bit sad. Likewise, I can now never rejoin "the ex-Mo" party, but all of you are entitled to whatever floats your boat.

With that long-winded explanation out of the way - Have "fun", and take care. Life is short; make the most of it and contribute positively in all the productive ways you can. Ciao.

Ray,

Why did you you question Harmony about her involvement in the church merely because she hopes for change?

Is this an organization to help the members or an organization to help the people in charge?

There's no accounting for taste.

And I don't think anyone knows ALL about any given subject, not even people who think they're informed.
(Nevo, Jan 23) And the Melchizedek Priesthood may not have been restored until the summer of 1830, several months after the organization of the Church.
