I find your theory unconvincing. Sorry. I doubt a similar environment somehow infect four boys located in a different parts of a house simultaneously.

I agree, after all, we are talking about British NHS in the late 90's. A neuropsych eval might have involved a lobotomy.

That or you would be asked to draw hands on a clock. You know, one of the two.

As long as I got my lobotomy.

Mutual psychogenic episodes are known to occur, by the way. But, if you are describing three separate, but temporally linked events that weren't a matter of false-memory via mutual suggestion, then that's as unlikely as anything.

True.

You sure it wasn't a witch instead of demons? Or a ghost? Or aliens? Or Hermes?

You know, one of the drunken people outside screaming at us did have a prominent wart.

So how do you explain Just me's success in demon repulsion, since she doesn't hold the priesthood?

What in the sentence you quoted suggested you need the priesthood to deal with these things? You really have a one-track mind.

so you're saying all one has to do is pray and no priesthood is needed?

To detect them which is what was in the sentence you quoted?

No, you don't even need that. I didn't pray in advance.

On a related question: is a belief in Satan required for admission into the temple?

First, how is that related?

Second, I think you know the wording of the Temple questions better then I do. You would have to to be able to manipulate them so you can believe everything you say here and still think you are being honest when you pass.

I have had no supernatural experience. However, demon tales surface every once in a while in LDS social circles. I've probably heard at least 3 or 4 stories that involved the casting out of demons; never have I met anyone who has claimed, as Nehor has, to be the subject of possession.

The story I heard most recently was from my best friend's father-in-law (let's call him Phil). About 10 years ago, Phil and his wife served a mission. For some reason or another, Phil was teaching an investigator by himself, and was talking about some such thing, when suddenly the man he was teaching was overcome by some strange spirit (this according to Phil). The man began uttering profanities, said the, "I am Legion" quote, took on a strange appearance (Phil said there was some strange aura about him). Anyways, Phil stepped back, raised his arm to the square, and commanded the demon to depart. According to Phil, the change as like night and day, and Phil carried on teaching the lesson.

All of the stories I've heard (the 3 or 4 that I'm familiar with) hold to the same type of pattern. I'm not sure what to make of them. Personally, I don't believe in demonic possession, visiting spirits, or other common LDS supernatural elements. I also don't think Phil was lying to me when he told the story; meaning, I think Phil had an experience that he can best ascribe to demons.

Of the people I've met that have experienced demons (and I don't claim this is a general pattern, just 3-4 data points), there seem to be common traits:

1. Each are utterly faithful members of the LDS Church, and have never waivered in their faith
2. Each are uneducated (formally) beyond high school
3. Each have studied the gospel extensively, and have large libraries that include books from pre-correlated prophets, GA's, and experts (such as Lund & Nibley)

Not sure if that means anything to you, Stak, but it's the best I've got.

One on my mission, one about five years ago.

Where?

In my mission house and once at a guy's house.

How?

Prayer and commanding.

Why?

Because in one case I was under attack and went into convulsions and started hearing voices.

In the other I could tell the guy himself and his place was under some kind of demonic influence. There was a presence there I felt just walking in.

What is it about you that attracts spirits of this type?

I don't know.

Perhaps my belief in them as they knew acting overtly wouldn't increase my faith in their holier counterparts?
