Stake Pres coming to visit

Post by _zeezrom »

I just got a call from the stake sec. who asked "if the stake Pres and his counselor can come to your house at 8:15 tomorrow to visit with you and your bride?"

I said they can.

Here we go again. Why do I continue to play this game? I should have told him I wasn't interested but I couldn't do it. in real life I hate to ruffle feathers and make waves. I might say critical things on this board, but I don't do it in real life, particularly to the very same men that had so much control over my feelings as a youth. It's funny, this is the same stake I was in prior to my mission. All my memories of guilt and confessions reside right here.

I'm still reeling from learning about the Mel. Priesthood blunder made by our LDS founding fathers. I was doing so well! I was almost NOM, willing to give church another try. There are too many aspects of this religion that make me laugh out loud. Sometimes I long for someone with authority to say, you are apostate- get out! But they don't do that. They just keep coming, asking us to come back, talking about us, telling us there is still good in the church (even though they lied about the Mel Priesthood!).

Yes. Do you think if he spoke with Ms. Zee they would say, "your groom"?

The blunder of not documenting the event. You know, the event that restored the truth to the human race?

If you open the meeting with a prayer to Athena, I think they might ask you not to come back. :)

On a more serious note, I sympathize with you, Zeez.

We had a pretty regular visitation schedule going for a few months, between church leaders, Relief Society, missionaries, etc.

About a month ago, my daughter opened the door to the missionaries who happened to be together for the first time rather than on splits. They asked a bunch of questions about how they could help us come back to church, if they could do any service for us, etc.

I finally stopped the kid and said, "Look, I don't want to waste your time to be honest. I respect what you guys are doing, since I've done it myself. But I can't have a genuine conversation with you about why I won't go back to church. I don't think you deserve to be put in the middle of it until you want to ask the questions I asked. So for now, can we just leave it as it's best for all of us if we don't come to church?"

The surprising answer was that they appreciated my honest answer and would probably not stop by any more. And they haven't. Nor has anyone from the ward. Hmmm.

Of course, I'm still tempted to go to church once in a while. Just to be "that guy". I haven't done that yet and probably won't. But maybe?

Maybe what you should do is negotiate. Ask to be allowed to speak in Stake Conference on a topic of your choosing. Let them know that you have been told that the church is very open about it's past so it shouldn't be an issue. Yeah. Now I'm hoping someone shows up at my house again.

I don't know. In a ward on my mission, a sister was asked to say the opening prayer for sacrament meeting, it was well document that she opened her prayers with "Dear Heavenly Mother..." and she did not disappoint the time I visited the ward.

I'm still WTFing over the "bride" thing.

I think it's cool. (And not so uncommon.)
