Re: Michael Ash is no longer writing his column...
I've never understood the hostilities expressed towards Mike Ash here. I find most of the things he writes and says to be fairly even-handed and thoughtful. Oh well...Too bad we don't get to read his column anymore.

I think what he writes, particularly his articles on Book of Mormon historicity, are great personal testimonies and should be reserved for nothing more than F&T Sundays. But, as with all other pieces of supposed "academic" pieces on Book of Mormon historicity put out by FARMS/MI, they will continued to be isolated to Provo Publications as they lack any credibility to be accepted by any secular academic institutions or peer groups. Even Peterson has concluded to that fact. And most of what Ash has published in this regard for Mormon Times seems nothing more than a "cut and paste" from the likes of Clark, Sorenson, Gardner and the rest of the Provo guys who continued to be ignored by their fellow academic peer group. But I recognize that Ash had a job to do.
"It's not so much that FARMS scholarship in the area Book of Mormon historicity is "rejected' by the secular academic community as it is they are "ignored". [Daniel Peterson, May, 2004]
