What I'm about to write is SHOCKING...literally.
From about 1972 until roughly 1980, this is how the LDS Church "treated" Mormon men who were "gay":
*The bishop would forward them to a clinic.
*At the clinic the gay men were fitted with electrodes that would deliver painful amounts of electricity when the operator pressed a button.
*The gay men sat in a chair nude, strapped to the electrodes, and they were shown a slide-show of photos of both gay sex (men having sex with men) and straight sex (men having sex with women).
*During the gay sex slides, the men received painful "shocks".
*During the straight sex slides, the gay men were told "Mastubate". Yes, they were told to masturbate during the straight sex slides.
These treatments continued until the gay man said "I'm cured! I'm cured! I now desire women!"
Now, as Mormons we were told that looking at porn and masturbation was "sinful". Yet, the Church had these gay men go through this as a way to make them "straight". Did it? I really don't know. You need to ask those who went through this.
Yes...this was Church-commanded porn/masturbation.
Since about 1980, the Church abandoned this Aversion Therapy, and the effort then was to basically "partner" gay men with sexy Mormon girls; to encourage Mormon bishops to get "sexually appealing" young Mormon ladies to date gay Mormon men (without telling them the men were gay). YES! I kid you not!! The Brethren at this time felt that Gay Mormon men would be "won over" by the intense sexual appeal of these young women.
Did it work? Well, there were a LOT of marriages from this, so...maybe it did. But from what I hear most of them went "South" because many (most?) of the gay husbands soon or eventually got male lovers.
Mormon bishops were instructed to DECEIVE YOUNG ATTRACTIVE Mormon FEMALES into dating men who were gay, but the young females WERE NEVER TOLD these men were gay!!! How many young Mormon women's lives and marriages were ruined by this?
In about 1987, a new thing was tried. This was a "12-step" like program similar to Alcoholics Anonymous. If a Gay Mormon gets into a situation where he is about to have sex with another man, he calls an associate who is supposed to pray with him over the phone in order to help him overcome the temptation.
I have "heard" that such a clinic where the SHOCKING took place was established at BYU, or close to BYU, but I don't know the details.
My question is:
1) If the President of the Church approved of the Aversion Therapy Program ("shocking"), and he did, why did the Chruch abandone it? Doesn't the Living Prophet know the Mind of the Lord? Does he not KNOW what will work and what will not work?
2) How can masturbating to porn CONFORM to Church teachings that this is always "sinful"? How could the Church Leaders approve a "sinful" practice in order to "overcome a sinful practice"?
3) Why were no Lesbian Mormon women included in the Aversion therapy? Why only gay Mormon males?
4) How could a Church which preaches "honesty in all situations" at the same time "deceive" young attractive Mormon women, not telling them these men were gay. Most of these young women would find out decades later, and children later, that their husbands had male lovers all throughout their courtships and marriages! RUINED!!!! How is this from God?
This is just one of the "10,000 contradictions" one finds in Mormonism. And God is not the Author of Contradictions.
WHAT I WOULD DO WITH GAY Mormons
Every year, I would hold a meeting with all young Mormon men and women who had "same sex attraction". I would tell them:
"You have a choice. Door number 1 is the Celestial Kingdom. Godhood. Children for eternity. You must marry in the temple and remain morally worthy, even in secret. You must marry one opposite your gender.
Door number 2. Remain celebate your entire lives, serve in the Church. No romantic love. No sex. If you can handle this, and remain celebate and faithful all your lives, you still get Godhood for eternity.
Door number 3. Leave the Church. Join another religion or church which accepts you as you are, if you want. Or, join no church. Find romantic love very possibly, and engage in physical pleasures quite frequently until you get too old. But lose any chance for the Celestial Kingdom.
Door number 4. Become a hypocrite. Be outwardly a good Mormon, even marry in the Temple, but violate your Temple Covenants in secret.
Brothers and Sisters, I hope you don't choose Door number 4. Don't be a Hypocrite. That is the WORST THING you could possibly do. Don't let LDS friends or family members PRESSURE you into living a lie, or being a hypocrite. That will send you and them to Hell both. The only honest thing to do is to choose Door number 1 or 2 or 3. Don't choose 4, because if you do, you'll go to Hell. And Hell does exist. Choose one, or two, or three. Do it today. Pray about it, then make your choice.
And to the parents of gay children. Don't shun them. Don't condemn them. Don't encourage them to become hypocrites by pressuring them to remain in the Church if they really don't want to. Let them go. Encourage them to get good educations; that is the most important thing. If you discover they are gay, encourage them to repent, but, if they don't wish to repent, respect their decision. It is their eternal decision, and not yours, to make. Again, don't pressure them to marry or remain in the Church if they don't want to. Give them their free agency to make their own decision.
And to gay children. Honor your father and mother. If they don't want you bringing home lovers, don't bring them home. They feed you and care for you. Get an excellent education. Study hard, and then move out. If you with Godhood, remain in the Church and strive everyday to overcome your inclinations. But, if you can't do that, or don't wish to do that, then leave the Church, don't be a hypocrite. Leave the Church and join some church that will accept you fully. The Lord's Church cannot accept you in sin. Not now. Not ever. But, as long as you remain under the roof of another, obey their rules, until you become independent. Choose ye this day whom ye will serve. If you wish to serve the LORD, live the Gospel. If you wish to serve the World, then go out into the World and become part of the World, but don't call yourself a Latter-day Saint in the light and then partake of sin in the dark, because God can see you in the dark. He knows your secret works. So, repent if you wish to enter the Kingdom of Heaven. If not, then leave the Church and enter the World and become part of it. Choose one or the other. Thank you."
