LDS Inc pays for aboslute control over their youtube videos

Post by _Polygamy-Porter »

The MormonMessages channel on youtube does not have any banner ads on the videos, plus all related videos in the sidebar as well as at the end of each video is only from other MormonMessages videos on youtube.

Try it, goto youtube.com and search for MormonMessages.

All videos uploaded by MormonMessages come on controlled pages.

Try this recent one which shows a dad who leaves his family because he is hooked on porno:

I wonder how much they pay for this complete control over the pages on youtube?

Perhaps those pesky truthful videos in the sidebar and at the end of the MormonMessages videos was causing a reduction of tithes?

Old Satan really has an unfair advantage it seems.

The same way they pay for everything else.
(Nevo, Jan 23) And the Melchizedek Priesthood may not have been restored until the summer of 1830, several months after the organization of the Church.

I was actually thinking "money", but tithes is likely the source. I suspect this comes under the heading "purify the Saints" or something similar.

Couple of notes on this video:

In the Good vs Bad split-screens, the difference between them was apparently not obvious enough; the 'bad-choice' videos all had a shadowed blue cast and a decreased saturation, making them a bit more gray. The 'good-choice' videos were lit with warm reds and yellows and were more deeply saturated. Also, Holland has a little catch in his throat, as if to choke back tears, at one point. If the narration was a recording from a talk given before an audience or congregation, such an emotional artifact could be understood. In the context of a carefully produced 'heart-sell' propaganda piece, it comes across as manipulative ("Ok, Elder Holland, you gotta make sure you sound like you're almost crying, ok? Quiet on the set! This is Take 17... and ACTION!")

Also... the link to pornography is only made explicit at the very end, when the 'combatting-porn' url is given on-screen. Up to that point, the video could very well have been about a TBM visiting MDB, Mormon Curtain or Mormonthink for answers to his growing and unanswered concerns about early church history.

Someone should do a parody of the video with Joseph and Fanny. The video would start with Emma throwing a pregnant Fanny out of her house in the middle of the night. It would then flash back to the day Joseph and Emma hired her (everyone is happy). The next scene would show a split screen. Both sides would begin with Joseph noticing how lovely Fanny is. The bright screen full of warm reds and yellows would show Joseph turning away from temptation and joining Emma in bed. The shadowed blue screen would show Joseph closing the door to Emma's bedroom and beginning to flirt with Fanny. This would go on and on just like the Mormonmessages video except with a replay of the Joseph Fanny incident (oh, the shadowed version could even show a glimpse through the crack in the barn wall!). Now that's the video I want to see.

Major disconnect alert! The anti-porn video is pathetic if it is meant as an outreach to non-Mormons. Let's see here -- good looking guy, nice car, big house and two small children and the message is that his wife boots him out for looking at porn? Like that is something most people care about anymore? Maybe many non-member women might be thinking, "What is this guy's number?"

I think this ad is aimed at scaring the you know what out of men who might be looking at porn. It also creates the ultimate threat -- don't listen to leaders or we empower your wives to throw you out -- kinda like the FLDS does to any teen male who questions the group.

Studies on younger women show that while they do not consume as much pornography as their male counterparts, they generally have a live and let live attitude on the subject. They just assume that guys look at porn. The problem with this ad is that it is as effective as showing a couple of lesbians living in misery as a church leader condemns same sex marriage in a speech.

Want to do something good to combat porn? Show a young LDS woman (single mother) who is poor and with a small baby. She can't pay the rent because she is laid off from a large corporation which is outsourcing her job to Nepal and so she becomes desperate and auditions for a porn movie. She does a few movies and, while she now has plenty of money, she feels horrible and sad for what she is involved in.

of course, that idea must have escaped the PR firm that did that video. Oh, just a question, while we hear speeches against porn and how horrible our priesthood leaders are for allegedly masturbating rather than doing their home teaching, has much been said about the men and women who go into this industry to pay the bills? Wouldn't that sort of message make one think more than this silly cat and mouse game that is evolving in Mormon ranks?
