Hey, BC,

Speaking as a voice teacher, your sister is definitely the most polished singer of the contestants. I will vote for her!!!

I am waiting for the ballot! :-)

I casted 5 votes. That should get me 5 units of spiritual time taken off my stay in spirit prison.

Liz:

You're a voice coach, so maybe you can enlighten me: Why do singers insert vibrato when they sing?

Vibratto is a natural part of the voice that develops as the voice matures. If you are singing in a healthy manner, you should not be "inserting" vibratto. You should allow the natural air flow to cause a consistent "spin", which produces vibratto on the chords.

You do have the ability to learn to control the speed of your vibratto, or remove it...sing on a straight tone. The trick in singing on a complete straight tone is to make sure that you are not tightening your throat to produce that type of sound. If you do, you will eventually develop nodes on the chords, like Steve Perry in Journey. Compare his early stuff with his late stuff.

For future vocal lectures, I charge $75 an hour. ;-)

Voice coaches make $75.00 per hour?

Man, I'm in the wrong line of work.

Liz,

Can you give us more specific examples of your Steve Perry example?

Also, do girls have a falsetto?

Also, I've never been able to do a vibrato, even trying to. My voice is pretty mature.

Thanks one and all for voting so far. My sister believes that a ballot ordered today will still be counted if sent in tomorrow so don't give up.

I will forward the compliments to her. Thanks Liz. And thanks MrStakhanovite; I will speak up for you in the judgement and bring water to cool your tongue while you're in Spirit Prison ;)

Both Jimmy Page and Paul McCartney have largely killed their voices - really sad on McCartney, needs some serious backup vocals to sound decent.

Liz,

What do you think of the last note at the end of her performance? A little too much drama or part of the work being sung?

Also, she was counseled not to sing Wagner at such an early age, but to wait till she's 30 or so lest it damage her voice. She's done some Wagner in other contests but was once docked for it because "she's too young to sing Wagner".
