I just find it a little ironical that folks here who seem to often complain the Church is too discinplarian seem now to be complaining the Church isn't discinparian enough.
I think this is because you are incorrectly looking at those who no longer believe as one group so it may seem a little inconsistent if one says one thing and another says the opposite. that's doesn't mean there may be a few who go after the church no matter what they do, but I think most here do not.
I have seen the church get more lenient in regards to sexual sins as long as they are not criminal. I tend to think this is good.

A bundle of conservative fellas sitting around in their suits poking their sticks at the sinful, in their view, mixed up individual, trying to get him/her to incriminate him/herself.
"You're messed up...just say it, you..."
You hit the nail on the head. Does it really do good for those concerned to have an outside group sit as judge and jury for a matter that rightly concerns resolution between those involved and their Creator? Do we as spectators really demand a pound of flesh from this errant husband? Seems to me that we just set ourselves up when we seek to act as arbiters of God's mercy.
