I agree with most of Joseph Smith's teachings (e.g., three degrees of glory, the necessity of temple work, even -- yes -- the divine origin of nineteenth-century plural marriage) because I'm convinced that he was a prophet, not because I worked my way through to such things on my own and then (what good luck!) happened to find a fellow who taught them.

How much romantic love does a man feel toward a prostitute he hires for an hour or two?
Is the behavior depicted in Dark Helmet's alleged witticism what you understand by "romance"?
If so . . . well . . . I think I'd better not comment.
I thought it pretty clear that Dark Helmet's alleged witticism was about lust.
I was responding to his alleged witticism.
But no, while we're at it, I don't imagine that there are too many johns who hire a prostitute, do the negotiating, fork over the money, and then, having shaken hands with her to confirm the deal, sit down at a desk and send the prostitute straight home.
