But Joey, I'm not a pillar of the world economy, as you are! My time is of no value to anybody. Yours, by contrast . . .

If the translation was, in part, "loose," then what was Joseph seeing on the seer stone?

In my mind, this would account for the attestation of both biblical anachronisms and Hebraisms that appear in the Book of Mormon.

I don't comprehend how any anachronism, Biblical or otherwise, can appear in a genuinely ancient book. Will you be kind enough to explain how it can happen?

Hello Shades,

I do not assume that everything that appears in the Book of Mormon is something that Joseph literally saw spelled out for him on the seer stone.

I don't comprehend how any anachronism, Biblical or otherwise, can appear in a genuinely ancient book. Will you be kind enough to explain how it can happen?

Because the "Book of Mormon" is not an ancient book. I believe it's a 19th century translation of an ancient book and the 19th century translation can/does feature anachronisms.

Sorry to imbed myself into this thread but I could not resist a thought. Christ was translating the Book of Mormon to the mind of Joseph Smith. He says so. The anachronisms were Christ's who knows all things and excuses not himself. All attributions must be given to him whose wisdom is greater than that of man.

D&C 9: 9
9 But if it be not right you shall have no such feelings, but you shall have a stupor of thought that shall cause you to forget the thing which is wrong; therefore, you cannot write that which is sacred save it be given you from me.

Joseph Smith was hardly shifting tight and loose of his own accord.

Can you find my announcement for the past two months? For the two months prior to that? For the two months even before that? How about one from seven-to-eight months ago? Nine to ten? Eleven to twelve? Any such announcement in the past year?

I'm sure that you're genuinely curious. So here are a few that I've taught in the past year: Introduction to Middle East Studies (Arabic) for Majors, Senior (Capstone) Seminar for Middle East Studies (Arabic) Majors, Individual Readings in Arabic, The Qur’an in English Translation, and The Qur’an in Arabic.

Joey wrote:And for the record of posting, both since 7-07:

Joey:  ~ 600

Peterson:  ~ 7,000. ( and let's not add in the 15,000+ at madb )

You understate the disparity between us:

I've posted 6821 times here over the past four years or so (not to mention the 12,457 recorded at the former MADB over the past seven years; I have no idea where you got that "15,000+" figure from), whereas you've posted just a single note here (although you've posted it roughly six hundred times, and also posted it 388 times over at the former MADB during the brief interval before you were banned there).

Moreover, while I've used something in the neighborhood of 103 exclamation marks over the last four years here -- mostly in responses to you -- you've used precisely 87,617 of them!!!!!!!!!!!!

Peterson,

Great response - at 12:15 on a Friday nite Saturday morning! Do you really have a life outside of Church direction that allows you any interest other than message boards at midnight on weekends

My gosh, you live in one of the greatest places in the world for outside activity! Is Church life so conforming there that you have to be on a computer in the middle of the night on a weekend? Brother, get a real life and some endorphins! Get a bike, golf clubs, hiking shoes, a fishing pole! Ride up Provo canyon, hike Timpanogos, get in nine up at Wasatch, or just fish Strawberry! Maybe even romance! But put the message board away at midnight on weekends! Geeeeze - get a life!

I had just returned from a concert in Salt Lake City.

On Thursday, I returned from four nights in Estes Park, Colorado, intensively visiting Rocky Mountain National Park. That was preceded by four nights in Las Vegas.

Do you have any interests in life beyond your pre-adolescent fascination with trying to insult me?

You have no idea about my life, you pathetic little twerp.

I was at Strawberry on Thursday. I'm spending the night up Provo Canyon, on the Provo River, tonight. I leave in about twenty minutes.

Cultivate your own tiny garden, O Giant of International Finance. Don't presume that you have even the faintest clue about mine.

So Peterson,

Why do you spend so much time at midnight on message boards with all you tell us you have going on in your life! Sounds a serious problem of either truthfulness or insecurity to me. We see this all the time in employees. But we also believe that people can change and we work with them. Hopefully BYU will do the same for you. Good luck.
