As an OrthoMo recently "endowed" (what a funny term), I used to fantasize about the church someday moving from garments as a reminder of covenants to just a necklace or a ring or something. After all, they changed the garments from one piece long Johns to shorter two-piecers. Anything is possible.
Do you think they'll actually do that? Or maybe they'll just continue to shrink the garments until they're essentially thongs.

Better to tattoo the things on all newly endowed members. That way they would always be protected from harm.

Re: The future of Jesus Jammies
I have been hanging around some of my Mormon friends recently and I'm not sure if they know how silly those garments make them look. Most of these guys have the garment sleeves longer than the t-shirts they wear and it looks really strange. When I see Mormons change at the gym I now realize how different the garments look from regular underwear. While I wore them I use to think they look pretty much the same but now that I don't see them as often they do look rather odd.
I use to buy short man garments because the normal pairs were way to long on me. Even with the short man garments sometimes they would stick out below the shorts. I know plenty of Mormons that buy the short man garments even though they are tall just so they don't have to wear the longer ones.
To answer your question I think they will shorten the sleeves in the near future just because it is hard to find short sleeve shirts that are longer that garments. I also think they will shorten the bottoms a little more as well.

Am I right in thinking that they have started to give military personnel khaki coloured ones now?

I don't think they'll be changed that much in mortality. In the afterlife, it seems possible they won't exist:
He had on a loose robe of most exquisite whiteness. It was a whiteness beyond anything earthly I had ever seen; nor do I believe that any earthly thing could be made to appear so exceedingly white and brilliant. His hands were naked, and his arms also, a little above the wrist; so, also, were his feet naked, as were his legs, a little above the ankles. His head and neck were also bare. I could discover that he had no other clothing on but this robe, as it was open, so that I could see into his bosom.

You can actually send in your military T-shirts, of whatever color (blue-grey for Air Force, green for Marines, etc.), and they will silkscreen the marks on the INSIDE of the T-shirt, allowing your top outershirt to be removed in hot weather exposing the garment to the wicked world. But the marks aren't seen from the outside. Just don't wear them inside out by accident and pull your shirt off.
Also, members are counciled to remove the garment and only wear regular underwear during boot camp or deployments where they will be seen by the unwashed masses regularly.

So much for Paul Dunn stories!!
So when you need the garmies protection the most, don't wear em.
Steve Young tells a shocked Mike Wallace of 60 Minutes that he does not wear the garmies while playing on the tough football field:

Mike Wallace's expression is priceless! Probably do to earlier in this same clip Bill Marriott tells Wallace that the G's DO protect you from harm.
Gotta post this link about garments!

It is so true it is hilarious.
