If you don't live on a farm, then sentiment is the only reason to have them.

If I don't want kids am I being selfish?

No. You're being wise.

Maybe the people that are having a ton of kids are the selfish ones.

I agree.

Or they can just do whatever the hell they want without having to much responsiblities in their lives.

That's the route I chose.

Are people without kids lonely?

I'm not.

I purposely chose to NOT have kids. Never once have I regretted that decision. If you don't want 'em, don't have 'em.

I don't regret your decision either. If Shades ever had kids, he'd wipe any smiles off their faces. He'd also split his kids into two groups: internet children and basement children.

But you have helped raise a step-daughter. That is still parenting.

This is exactly to what I was referring. There really is no love that can compare to the love of a parent for a child.

I'm not saying life cannot be full, complete, and happy without children - obviously it can. But I do not believe one can have that experience other than as a parent.

I don't regret experiencing that, as hard as parenting can sometimes be. I don't regret it even though I recognize that, in some ways, having children ensured that my life would never belong to just me ever again. But is that a bad thing?

My children are the best things in my life. How do I explain it to a non-parent? Take my daughter, Jente. When I think of her, her name isn't written as "Jente" in my head. It shows up as "Jente" or perhaps "Jente" but really it's "Jente". That's the best way I can explain how I feel about her.
