I shaved it off a couple of years ago and both my wife and mother complained. I'm stuck with it. I guess the more of my face that is covered, the better I look.

LOL, yes that must be it! I do remember hearing complaints after shaving it last time... now that you mention it. my wife would also like to see me dressed like Darcy (refer to Jane Austen) with the high collar and long sleeves. I think the less she sees of my actual body, the better!

Mmmmm. That could be fun. You should get on that. http://www.janeausten.co.uk/magazine/se ... =27&step=2

:)!

Maybe we should both consider wearing burkas.

Nonsense. I have known bishops and branch presidents who have had beards. No one cared a rats piss about it. I have seen members with facial hair, no one cared in church about it. I have seen no cult like behavior. Maybe some people here are projecting their own biasness onto the Mormons.

Well you wouldn't see cult like behavior, after all you admittedly haven't attended an LDS church for years.
by the way the phrase generally used is "gave a rats ass" I'm a little surprised here given your focus on tattoos in that area.

This is not exactly true. I do attend sunday school or I can attend sacrament meeting. And I do have two very active daughters, and one is now serving a mission with my support.

Well, Utah County is Utah County. However, to hear the apostates on this boad, the church is only centered in Utah County. It is a world wide church that crosses many cultures. In my area, no one cares who has a beard and who doesn't. And in the seventies in NYC, men wore beards if they wished to wear a beard.

The attitude of the exmos on this board or the members who continually have a gripe against the church need to stop projecting their own prejudice on a world wide church.

So, when you did attended, you attended a small branch on the East Coast? That might explain the un-mormon-like experience you had.

I've lived in three different states in the last 25 years, and in my experience, the "beard" thing is a big deal for Mormons everywhere, not just in Utah county. Again, most people here have a lot more experience with Mormonism than you do. It's not surprising that you keep projecting your limited experience on the rest of us.

But to be fair, I'll add my two cents. I've sported a beard much of my adult life. Not one soul from Church, as far as I'm aware, ever took any sort of issue with my beards throughout the years. As of this week, I spent time loading and unloading hay with a nice fella. He's an active LDS fellow who teaches Gospel Doctrine. He's had a beard for quite some time. No apparent affects. After hauling hay I went and met up with an old friend--one I might call my best friend. He doesn't have a beard at all and I've never seen him wear one, but he is active LDS. As it turned out though, I met his brother that night. His brother is also an active LDS with a beard. Last night I met up with two other good friends of mine. I met them both in college and find them to be two of the most wonderful gents I know. Both of them have beards, both are active LDS, one is a YM's President and the other is on some sort of Activities committee.

My limited experience, which I agree doesn't pertain much to Utah county (although one of the dudes did go to BYU) is this whole thing is overplayed. I don't know Zee's family, of course, but I can't imagine anyone making stink over a beard. I've never seen it. I'm not say it couldn't happen, or hasn't happened, or won't happen. So that's that.

My bishop had to shave his face in order to be called as bishop. He was straight up told that he had to in order to accept the calling. for what it's worth

If Utah county isn't all of Mormonism, how much less "the seventies in NYC" is all of Mormon history.
