President Jimmy Carter in a telephone conversation with LDS Church President Spencer W. Kimball. June 7th, 1978.
Carter: "President Kimball, you must understand its a new day! Your Church just can't keep discriminating against blacks."
Kimball: "Mr. President, this so-called discrimination is from the Lord! He dictates to us. We don't dictate to him! There's just nothing I can do!"
Carter: "Spencer, may I call you Spencer?"
Kimball: "Go ahead."
Carter: "Spencer, look, I....the people who got me into office wanted me to end all discrimination in the United States. I OWE them. Look, if you don't end this ban against blacks, well, the Congress and Senate and I are going to forward this bill, ending all tax-exempt status against all churches who discriminate. Spencer, do you get my drift?"
Kimball: "My....my God! The Church will lose BILLIONS!"
Carter: "Spencer, could you think about reconsidering?"
Kimball: "Mr. President....I'm...I'm starting to get something....THUS SAITH THE LORD unto my servant Spencer W. Kimball.....My ways are not your ways, my thoughts are not your thoughts, you have banned the black brethren for long enough, the Curse upon the posterity of Cain has been lifted forever! Thus saithe the Alpha and the Omega, even Jesus Christ. Amen!"
Carter: "At-a-boy Spencer! At-a-boy!"
Kimball: "I'm going to announce this tomorrow, Mr. President, that I received a Revelation lifting the priesthood-ban. So, ah, about that bill?"
Carter: "What bill Spence? What bill?
Kimball:"Oh, ahhahah! Thank you Mr. President!"
Carter: "That's what I'm here for Spence. That's what I'm here for!"
NOTE: This is sarcastic fictional humor. No such dialogue occurred. There are "rumors" something like this happened, but only rumors. I wrote to President Carter in the 1980s five times asking him if he ever told Kimball to end the ban. I received no reply ever.

Yep. I was listening to Orson Scott Cards "Humanism" revival parody on some wack-job Atheist site today, and he said something good about those who lie about others and a thing in order to try and support and implement for others their own message. He said it much better than my summary, but essentially if you have to lie in order to support your message, then maybe your message isn't as good as you think, truth should be able to stand on it's own.

Everything else I've written on Mormon Discussions is 100 per cent TRUTH, but not this little sarcastic post. Even this sarcasm is based upon "some" truth (i.e. the U.S. Government was making thinly veiled threats to get rid of the Church's tax-exemption if it kept blacks from the priesthood). The Carter administration was on the back of all churches that "discriminated".

The LDS Church __________lies all the time_______ by telling people: "Nope, the Church NEVER taught that blacks are cursed in any way!"
Don't believe me? I would then encourage you to call LDS Public Affairs and ask them.
