Fair enough. Perhaps we could say that the Church sees another opportunity to induce guilt by making one believe that they have sinned while providing a means for "redemption" from the sin (for a price, of course).

Actually, it was a slow progression that began with the VCR. First, the LDS church was not too concerned when porn was limited to movie theatres. Downtown salt lake had a porn theatre but it was censured. But with the advent of the vcr, porn began to enter into the homes. And then, with the dvd, porn became a major home entertainment business. But with the internet, porn became much more threatening to family values since it could be had with a press of the keyboard and this was a major concern for the LDS church.
But then, again, how many women would want their husbands to view porn on a regular basis? Not many. The porn images are usually seered into the man's mind and do represent some stiff competition for the wife.

How many conference addresses were about skiing on Sunday? Cuz there are dozens of CG talks and Ensign articles on PORN. Seems like there is a lesson about it in some form quarterly.
Would you want your hubby to be a regular porn viewer? And if someone on the job is caught looking at porn, it usually ends with a dismissal. Many companies have a zero tolerance toward porn. Porn is addicting. Research confirms this. But the real problem comes from the many young women who are tempted to work in the business for a quick buck. And their experiences are not very good or humane. Should I go into graphic detail and gross you out? Nah...not yet...

Zee.
Here is the thing: Would you want your daughter to work in the porn business? Probably not. And if the answer is no. Why? The next time one watches a porn movie, they should ask themselves: would I want my daughter to do this? Is it degrading? And then, is the LDS church correct?
Viewing your posts I see that you are into the shock treatment: alcohol, beards, coffee, the goddesses etc. And most likely stories about your experiences are told to extended LDS family members. It would be only a matter of time before family would be thinking of a porn interest. What the church is against you seem to embrace and the extended family is most likely aware of this.

Yeah and before the vcr there were magazines, and before that there were sears catalogs, before that guys and girls used their imaginations. Why me, guys and girls have been thinking about sex and masturbating forever. The only thing that has changed is what they masturbate to.
I have found outside the church that most women my age really don't have a problem with men looking at porn. A lot of these women look at porn themselves. They just expect guys to do it because that is what guys do and they know that there is really not to many guys that don't do it or they are just lying about not doing it.
I especially like the one about the fact that porn is a Church-manufactured problem for which the Church has a manufactured solution.
Postmo is a beavis and butthead site where most members if asked would not want their daughters in the porn business nor their wives and husbands viewing porn often. And yet, they will be critical of the LDS church's stance on porn.
Porn is a multibillion dollar business mainly funded by people who never attend church nor care about sin. They just enjoy the viewing and can't get enough.

.
The sexual revolution had an effect on porn. From playboy with naked women doing various poses to the porn industry is quite a jump and a revolution. The vcr and the dvd and now the internet have made porn a common problem in people's lives and what exactly makes up a current porn movie leaves much to be desired. Not to mention the names of porn companies which usually has something to do with the devil or evil.

Which shows just how far we have come along such values being embraced. However ask these women if they want their husbands to be a porn viewer and I would think that most would say no. By the way, an interesting barometer of this is the MTV show Room Raiders. If the women who is searching the bedroom discover porn in the guy's room or on the internet, these guys are usually not chosen and porn is the reason why.

Runtu wrote:I don't bother with porn, but it seems like some people in the church are really obsessed with it. The way people talk about porn, it's this terrible scourge like the black plague or baby formula spiked with crack. This article may be a bit of a reality check:
From what I know, the cycle of guilt and shame over porn is what often drives the obsession, and research seems to confirm my belief.
"It turns out that among porn viewers, the amount of porn each subject consumed had nothing to do with his or her mental state. What mattered most, Twohig found, was whether the subjects tried to control their sexual thoughts and desires. The more they tried to clamp down on their urge for sex or porn, the more likely they were to consider their own pornography use a problem. The findings suggest that suppressing the desire to view pornography, for example, for moral or religious reasons, might actually strengthen the urge for it and exacerbate sexual problems. It’s all about “personal views and personal values,” Twohig says. In other words, the effects of pornography—positive or negative—have little to do with the medium itself and everything to do with the person viewing it."
