I don't think it will be hugely lengthy. But it will be longer than anything I've posted here or on any other message board.

And it will involve the marshaling and organizing of evidence.

I don't have time right now to do the work that I think is required, wouldn't put that much work into a message board post anyway, have no interest in making public an inadequate treatment of the topic, and feel no obligation to steal my own thunder.

Dan would like to know what would lead one to believe the differences between the Contemporary Salt Lake faction and the LDSF faction are clear and self-evident.

Well, among other things, the LDSF (until very recently) routinely coerced girls in their early teens into polygamous marriages with middle-aged and elderly men. The Contemporary Salt Lake faction discontinued this disgusting practice more than a century ago.

Well, they’re definitely not a Brighamite faction, since they got rid of all the cool stuff Brigham added to the religion, like blood atonement. Furthermore, the current Salt Lake gang certainly would not give tacit, after-the-fact approval & support to members who slaughtered a wagon train full of immigrants from Arkansas. So we have that much to be thankful for.

If anything, they’re probably a Danite faction, since people like Dan Peterson seem to make more pronouncements regarding history & doctrine than the Brethren.
