From what she hears, all your votes should be counted. You can periodically visit the first link in my OP where the results will be announced. It currently says "Stay tuned for results". We're dependent on that too for information on final results. We don't know when the results will be in but I'll be sure to bump this when we see or hear something.
They picked the finalists without public input. It's interesting that the final results for the winner are based soley on the public. But considering the variation in finalists, it's probably the best way to go. Of course that introduces the element of how big is your network of friends, family, and associates (I'm pretty sure this was not on TV anywhere). But we will be proud of her and thankful to all of you no matter what the result is.
I can say that our family is bigger than average and I am one of the better networkers. But I got a late start because there was a delay in getting the ballot online so I wasn't looking else I would have put out the message a few days earlier. We shall see....
The prize is "a $3,500 contract with Cincinnati Opera, which may include public appearances and performance opportunities."
http://www.cincinnatiopera.org/opera-idol-faqs/The suggestions on what to sing are interesting:
What should I sing?
All musical styles are welcome. The most important thing is to select a song that shows the range and quality of your voice. You may, of course, sing in any language you like.
In addition to opera and musical-theater pieces, here are a few other songs to consider:
“Bad Romance” by Lady Gaga
“You Raise Me Up” by Josh Groban
“Who Wants to Live Forever” by Queen
“A House Is Not a Home” by Luther Vandross
“My Way” by Frank Sinatra
“My Heart Will Go On” by Celine Dion
“Somewhere Over the Rainbow” from The Wizard of Oz
“Don’t Stop Believing” by Journey
I'd pick the last one. Being a tenor, I can hit those falsetto notes (they sound falsetto to me); or at least I used to be able to. Having sat next to my mother growing up in Church, I have a difficult time now following the tenor parts so I sing the soprano parts nowadays.
by the way, speaking of operas, please check out the Portal 2 turret opera, "Cara Mia," by Ellen Maclain (Video Game Original | Cover by an a cappella group). Because it's awesome.
I liked it. Probably sounds even better directly on your system.
OK, I've voted for your sister. Now we can get back to despising each other. :-)
Impossible. I am undespisable. ;)
(Or that indespisable?)
Thanks for voting!
