Her reasons were sound and I felt I should give my support. This morning, nobody but me woke up until after 8:30 (I had to get some work done) and DD was at a sleep over with her friend. Church starts at 9:00. Obviously, we were totally unprepared. my wife reminded me of her desire to get everyone going and so we brought up the idea to our two sons. Immediately, they broke out into strong protest. One of them started crying. They are all dead set against it.

I'm not worried. We go through this for other things and it just takes determination on our part. We plan to try for next week and we will put more effort in up front.

The challenge is me. If my heart isn't into it, my wife will be hard pressed to make things happen. Church is, after all, sort of a family affair. So, my goal this week is to muster up a desire to go back. I'm a man on a mission, dammit!

How pathetic. You can't even do apostasy with conviction and integrity. At least people like Some Schmo can be admired for choosing a course and sticking with it. You on the other hand can't seem to decide if you're coming or going.
... she said that she was ready to drive up to Salt Lake City and confront ... Church leaders ... while well armed. The idea was ... dropped ... [because] she didn't have a 12 gauge with her.

Sometimes you have to compromise for the sake of your family. The notion that one would jeopardize one's family out of "conviction and integrity" is kind of sick. I'd say the people who are trying to work things out are not the ones who are pathetic.

I was going to say something about how surprising it is to see a Mormon discouraging an ex-Mormon from going to church, but then I remembered you're Will's sock puppet, and it all makes more sense.

It is odd, but, yes, very much in character for our friend(s). If you're in a marriage where one spouse is a believer, and the other isn't, you are going to have to compromise some. There's nothing weak or pathetic in doing what you need to preserve your family. Apparently, some people would prefer that Zee (and others like him) would go ahead and get divorced just to maintain their integrity.

It's funny that the same people give Joseph Smith a pass for dishonesty about his plural marriages. Sometimes you have to sacrifice your integrity to follow God's will, they tell us. But attend church for the sake of your family? Oh, that is so wrong on so many levels!

You can't make this stuff up.

Damn Nomad, you come all the way over here and still can't even find a place in your heart to comment on the fashionable clothing?

by the way - I don't think those look like pajama bottoms but rather "light pants". Great for warm climates. Man, those sandals would be great to have.

OTOH (or OTOL*, if you prefer), wearing PJ bottoms to church might make it possible to be on time on days when you would be late if you took the time to dress "properly".

*OTOL = on the other leg(s)

Isn't it wonderful how we can always depend on Nomad for an uplifting, supportive, and helpful comment?

I think that his kids haven't gone to church for a while. And zee has been their teacher in the meantime. No wonder the kids are crying. Freedom to do what one wishes on a sunday would do that to any kid who has to go to a church which daddy doesn't believe in anymore.

I would've liked to slip in and look around, both to see what had changed in the interior design (for my own nostalgic purposes, I hoped nothing had) and to see what the services were like. Unfortunately, I know that Mormon service is not particularly made for anonymous drop-ins, so I never did.

Fear of catching the spirit? I wouldn't be afraid if I were you. You should have dropped in instead of projecting what if's. You may have been surprised.

What on earth do you care whether someone is a fanatical church going dweeb like yourself or not?

Why not worry about getting your pathetic A$$ into church and not bother with what others are doing? You busybody Mormons and your petty superficial judgements!
