Do you mean to tell me that while we're all here pulling our hair out trying to communicate, to gain better understanding, to search our hearts and the scriptures for truth that *you* get to *leave town* and you'll be ridin' a bike???

Truth challenged? ;^)

I, an atheist, am "saved", but Mormons, who believe in Jesus, albeit with differences in description, may not be saved unless they overcome their Mormonism or something. And even if they're saved, they probably won't have True freedom in Christ, because they've been taught incorrect theology.

How does any of this make sense?

An excellent question.

A number of years ago, I started a thread along the same lines (on the board that banned me--think James Bond movie themes) asking whether evangelical Christians thought Mormonism to be "the unforgiveable sin."

All the Best!

I would certainly hope so.

YOU said that being saved means ALL your sins are forgiven, even future ones.
So what, is it backsies now on my being saved?
Or was it a temporary salvation? Conditional on something?
by the way, who is cheering me on so enthusiastically?
They must be doing silent cheers. Maybe they're mimes.
Oy. Okay. You win. I give up. You have battered me into submission. Christianity is a mixed up muddled up world where nothing is as it seems. You've caught me. You've figured out the secret that has escaped millions of people and you should be lauded for your insight that only the best and brightest have deciphered.

According to Hoops (and other EVs I've talked to) being saved means that ALL of your sins are forgiven, even your future sins. So my sin of disbelief is forgiven. I'm still saved.

This general issue has actually come up in prior discussions. If you'll indulge something of a dated example:
They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have continued with us. But they went out, that it might become plain that they all are not of us. (1Jo 2:19 ESV)

Without peeking, wasn't this in reference to early Christians who believed Jesus had not come in the flesh?

Hey Consig!

No, and yes. No: So far from being considered "early Christians," John actually labeled such folks as "anti-Christs" (ἀντίχριστοι). If John's declaration carries any weight, they were certainly not "early Christians."

Yes: it appears that the proximate heresy was some form of docetism.

The question you're raising, I think, is whether or not John's declaration has anything of significance to say to us today in disparate theological debates. I think it does.

Best, friend.

So when I accepted JC as my Savior, with all sincerity, I wasn't really saved after all? I was never "one of us"?

That means there is something more to being saved than just accepting JC as one's Savior.

You tend to retreat to snarky comments when asked questions. Although I'm sure you'll deny it, I think it's because you've run out of answers.

So did God look into the future and see that one day I would no longer believe, so even though, in all sincerity and belief, I accepted JC as my Savior, I wasn't saved?
