You have to be in love to have sex?

Great video. Now they should make one that depicts a Mormon who looks at pornography and a non-mormon who looks at pornography.

The Mormon is indoctrinated to feel terrible guilt, to believe he will become addicted to porn if he looks even once, and to expect his marriage to be destroyed by the evil scourge that turns him into a craven monster. Indeed, this is exactly what happens according to his belief.

The non-mormon believes that porn is no big deal, nothing unnatural or to be ashamed of, nothing to hide from his wife (who occasionally watches with him), and nothing to occupy his thoughts in a way that interferes with attention to his family and children. As such, the non-mormon ultimately watches less porn than the guilt-ridden Mormon, and has a healthy attitude about himself and his family. All is well. He even masturbates less than the Mormon because there is no guilt factor to drive him to compulsion.

I think the video here is accurate about what happens to Mormons who look at porn, but it does not address how much of those problems are created by the hyper-guilty attitude that Mormons have about sexual purity.

Minus the promise and belief that porn will destroy your life, guess what? Porn no longer has the power to destroy your life!

married a Durange and was thus duranged?

That's interesting but hardly relevant.

I seriously doubt this video is doctrine. So it can be, and probably should be, ignored.

Dammit...there are those pesky 60% non-members/inactives that skew the Utah stats again. If there was some way to keep them from porn, plastic surgery, and popping happy pills all day, Utah would grade out a whole lot better. Damn those 60%-ers!!!

Sheesh, I am so fortunate to have a partner without a porn hang-up who enjoys it as much or more than I. Bring on the addiction!!

Code: Select all

Did anyone else throw up in their mouth after watching this?

The only time that usually happens is when the thought of this board crosses my mind.

Most married men I know watch porn and they seem to be good fathers and husbands. It's pretty sad that this video shows that you are a bad husband or father if you watch porn.

1. Birds of a feather...

2. Yes, pornography is good. Pornography makes bad husbands good and good husbands better. The family that porns together stays together.

3. Do you really think this kind of silly, self serving anecdotal storytelling is to be taken seriously? The effects of pornography on individuals, family stability, and marriage are well known and have been well known for a long time. Sorry you've been left behind with your pants down around your ankles (apropos, don't you think, given the subject mater here?).

I've told some church members that I think it is a worse sin not to be a nice person than it is to watch porn.

One thing to consider as we are trying to control our sex urges is for millions of years species have survived and evolved by reproducing. The males that spread the most seed had a better chance of continuing his bloodline. The males that did not reproduce had their bloodline go extinct. Therefore, everyone alive today is descended from perverts. We have horny genes raging through our bodies.

I find it interesting that of all the ills worthy of discussion and of being warned about, the Church prioritises sex (whether that be porn, masturbation etc). What other things might be a bigger threat?
Drugs
Famine
Poverty
Gun crime
Gang membership

Why is porn the number one priority?

Because according to reports I have heard from people in the know at church, 70% of ALL LDS couples have a porn addiction problem within the marriage.

It's "tearing" families apart. Men are being fired. It is an epidemic.

I don't believe it is unnatural to view others having sex...from an evolutionary standpoint. Don't other animals mate in front of eachother? Didn't ancient people mate in front of eachother?

I think that it would be a great way to get everybody mating. Kind of a domino effect. Think of all the fertility rituals along with ritualized sex that ancient people engaged in. There have also been consummations viewing customs in different parts of the world. Think of all the people who have lived in one room homes with the entire family or generations of family.

Privacy is actually more unnatural.
