Since some of you are offended by the term "TBM"
I have an idea for another term for traditional, true-believing Mormons: homodox Mormons. What do you think?
Homodox Mormons would be the ones who believe what the prophets say, who hold traditional Mormon views, etc.
Heterodox Mormons would be people like apologists, members of the Maxwell Institute, most of the posters at MADB, and others who don't really believe what the prophets say and prefer to map out their own theology based on apologetic expediency and avoiding being embarrassed in front of their non-member friends.

So, would that make the MF'ers over at the Maxwell Foundation homodox or heterodox? ;-)
eschew obfuscation

Since they're MF'ers and not FF'ers, I'd say heterodox :o

I don't think are offended by the term TBM so much as taking issue with the way some people spit it out with derision, as if its a derogatory term. But I could be wrong...whose offended by the term itself?

I think the term is fine. It's better than BM (believing Mormon).
How bout we use team colors instead?
Blue for TBM
Red for Apologists
Purple for NOM

Dr. Peterson has stated that he finds it offensive and wants people to stop using it. Funny enough he refused to stop using the term "anti-Mormon" although many find it offensive.

uh...can't someone be both Red and Blue? why are we so earnest in our efforts to define people and categorize them so nicely?

Categorization is the lubricant in verbal intercourse.

Re: Since some of you are offended by the term "TBM"
The concept of the "true believer" has application beyond Mormonism, and beyond religion, for that matter. It's a useful descriptor and I don't see any reason why it should cause offense. There are true believers in every cause on the planet, along with people who pursue the same causes for reasons other than true belief. It's often useful and illuminating to distinguish between the two.
I was once a true believer in Mormonism. My wife is not a true believer, but she is more active in the church than my mother, who is a true believer. How would DCP prefer that we discuss such things?
When I was a true believer in Mormonism, I might have taken offense at the idea that my sincere belief was some kind of cognitive disorder, and so I try to avoid the implication when I use the term. (Michael Ash apparently does not share my qualms.) If there is a more appropriate term that does not imply mental deficiency but still conveys a willingness to believe in the face of contradictory evidence, I'm all for it.

I'm afraid not.
Someone who is both red and blue is by definition purple.
As I expect the color coordinated JustMe intended when she proposed the scheme . . .
