Aside from a few potentially-racist comments and some doctrinal curiosities, I think Brigham Young was an unparalleled leader. He led the exodus across the plains and headed the colonization of Utah and other parts of the West. Brigham had the vision to give the Saints their own home where they would be free from persecution. He founded universities, brought the telegraph and railroad to the Mormons, and established temples where we can worship our God. I respect him and am grateful to him for these things.

I am confident that while he was sometimes loose with what he said, the results of Brigham Young's actions that have endured the past century and a half were inspired by God, and Brigham was the tool God used to accomplish many of his works.
