More the abatement of the cities, really, if the concept of a "dark age" must be used at all.

Moreover, Christians are the ones who preserved the learning of antiquity.

The Western Christians mostly preserved patristic Christian texts. The rest were largely burned or forgotten. The learning of classical antiquity was preserved more by Muslims than Christians.

Chap wrote:The concept of a 'Dark Ages' is of course based on a view of history that centers on the Latin West, and neglects the Eastern Roman empire that continued for long after the deposition of the last of emperor of the Western Empire. Many historians nowadays prefer not to use it at all. It also neglects the Islamic world as a contributor to human intellectual culture.

I was just about to post that I can't believe anyone here still believes in a thing called "the Dark Ages" when Chap wrote this. Good on you, Chap.

That is nonsense. From whom do you think the Muslims obtained the texts? The angel Jibreel?

This has to be the quote of the century.

Can someone find me a/the scientific explanation for the warm fuzzy feeling you get when you help/serve people?

If Karma is your answer you can't be further from the truth, When our planet becomes uninhabitable will Karma just cease to exist?

.

...and sought to imprison or murder those who sought to freely investigate the nature of the universe. Galileo, anyone?

Galileo was not imprisoned for his scientific exploration. And his imprisonment, such as it was, even by our standards today, was very, very lenient.

Why was he imprisoned?

He was given house arrest. And the catalyst for his troubles was other scientists, not the church. Here's a good article about it.

Thanks,

I figured the research, if any; would say that service delivers some sort of primal sexual pleasure.

Maybe deheshism will see that link.
