Just remember, today's caffeine users are tomorrow's crackheads.
With regard to “Spirit” mythologies, they are unreliable. Every religious claim for spiritual is countered by other claims on such assertions by those who adhere to other notions of “Spirit” (your claim). There is no evidence that use of coffee or tea or soft drinks (which contain caffeine) is inherently “a gateway drug.”
Your assertion is without merit.

Jak,
Every crackhead started out with caffeine. I have seen countless lives destroyed, dreams shattered and families split apart just because someone took their first sip of caffeinated diet coke. How dare you say that my assertion is without merit. Good day, sir!

While I will admit that there are some spiritually minded people who do partake of caffeinated beverages, I intend to prove that caffeine blocks a persons ability to feel the Holy Spirit in a much greater degree. I have seen this first-hand in people who have decided to give up caffeine and they feel and can describe a greater spiritual awareness than when they used caffeine.
Am I the only one here who knows they give caffeine to premature babies? It wards off sleep apnea, which sometimes leads to SIDS. And green tea has been proven over and over again to be healthful for many. You can't throw the baby out with the bath water. Some things caffeinated are healthful, and some things hot are good for you as well. Just the fact that one would have to go to his/her bishop to get permission to ingest green tea, suggested by one's doctor, is ludicrous. Getting into heaven based on being honest about ingesting something good for you, but against the Word of Wisdom, is the dumbest thing on the planet.

Giving caffeine to a baby may save the life of the baby. And green tea may have some healthy benefits. But I don't see what this has to do with spirituality. Have you ever read or seen the movie Tuck Everlasting? Just because something may prolong your life or make you feel good, doesn't mean that it is really all that good for you. If only the search for spirituality was a greater endeavor than the search for good excuses to justify the partaking of something that very well may be a critical component of what is in the Word of Wisdom.
If applied topically to the spirit, coffee can burn like heck. The best results are obtained by first infusing ground coffee into water and then drinking that infusion.
Drinkers of Diet Colas (especially lime and cherry flavored diet colas) have been granted a special indulgence.

For the last time, please do not drink caffeine. Do so at your own peril. I have seen too many people start down that dark, lonesome and terrifying road of caffeinated soft drinks, only to end up like THIS.
Please, it's not too late.
