I am glad you feel comforted by the rituals, JM, and didn't mean to suggest you should feel otherwise.
I just felt my friend (whom I actually met the first time at the MTC--she was going to Italy and I to Japan--and who told me about this over ten years later after she had left the Church) should have her voice heard on the subject.

I'm glad you added that perspective. I've certainly never thought of it. I was more focused on things that already are uncomfortable...like interviews/confessions and bishop's court.

If she was cute, I would make up sins just so I could go and confess them to her.

why me wrote: I think that you missed the boat on this one. Why is the age limit for women at 21? For one simple reason: to allow them to get married to a return missionary. The male returns at 21. The women can leave at 21. See the point? Eternal marriage Trump's missionary work for young ladies.
This doesn't make sense they could get married to a returned missionary if they went on a 2 year mission at nineteen like the men. Women and men would both be returning at 21 and then men could marry a returned missionary too.

I implied the same thing and was more or less called creepy and a perv. But I think that you will get a free pass.
I intend to lay a foundation that will revolutionize the whole world. Joseph Smith We are “to feed the hungry, to clothe the naked, to provide for the widow, to dry up the tear of the orphan, to comfort the afflicted, whether in this church, or in any other, or in no church at all…” Joseph Smith
And the young women's responsiblity is in the home, where they are expected to be wives and mothers.
Can you really not see the sexism inherent in what you are saying?

This is not true. As you know, birth control is alive and well in the LDS marriage. Also, women are encouraged to get an education. But since it is they that have responsibility of bringing spirits into the physical world, it is their special mission to do so. Now, if more nonlds families were like LDS families I think that we would have a much more healthy family organism in our societies. Wouldn't you agree? Who would you suggest bring into this world the spirit children of our heavenly parents? Martians?

I think men can handle it fine. But men are not perfect.

You both just said the same thing as far as I can tell.

I add the feeling that this was a criticism by just me. And of course she got the usual poster sympathies for being taught so. And I didn't see any comment by just me saying that she was happy to be taught this.

Please tell shades the same comment since he wrote something similiar on this page of the thread. See above. But something tells me he will get a free pass.
