While caffeine rushes blood to the Temporal lobes it does it at the expense of removing and possibly damaging the Frontal lobe. The temporal lobes at full stimulation causes individuals to speak quicker, remember things faster but the frontal lobe may in fact be critical in spirituality.
I "lurk" these board quite a bit so I don't post all that often, but this actually got me to log in. I am currently a graduate student pursuing a PHD in Neuroscience at the University of Washington. I work in a lab (Dr. Bamford's lab if you want to look it up) that studies the effects of drugs on the brain- and actually am working on a study examining the effects of caffeine on certain neurons in the frontal lobe.
The quoted statement is absolutely NOT true.
Ridicule is the only weapon which can be used against unintelligible propositions. Ideas must be distinct before reason can act upon them; and no man ever had a distinct idea of the trinity. It is the mere Abracadabra of the mountebanks calling themselves the priests of Jesus."

I noticed you left off the third paragraph where I state:
frontal lobe is associated with reasoning, planning and emotions
. Let me know when or if you begin some clinical trials on the effects of caffeine in regards to these important aspects of what the frontal lobe is about. I don't know if you understand spirituality, but could the correct balance of reasoning, planning and emotions be the key in spiritual receptivity? If caffeine changes the balance of any of these, it can possibly change how someone feels spiritually. I doubt science would be at all interested in this aspect of spirituality so I doubt the Neuroscience community will contribute much to finding answers to Word of Wisdom and spiritual issues.

True, it sounds too ridiculous to not be a parody, but I've come to realize that people who talk about religion often sound like a parody because the content of religion is absolutely ludicrous without changing a damn thing. That's why I read this board: You get to see religious nuts talk in their natural habitat (as opposed to the BS front they put up in real life because saying this stuff might land them in an asylum). No need for me to paint a religious caricature when they can naturally make the religious mind look bad so much better.
So I guess I'm reserving judgment on this CSA character. It's true; someone could honestly be this silly. It would be a relief to find out it's a put on, but it's more than possible it's not.
God belief is for people who don't want to live life on the universe's terms.

Wow you need to visit a board to listen to this stuff. When your close friends and family believe it all you get to hear this stuff all the time. I sometimes find it funny other times I find it kind of sad.
by the way I'm loving this thread. I have always said caffeine is the real gateway drug or is it sugar...
It is your prerogative to believe the things you wish to believe. Many here complain quite loudly that the mainstream LDS are not open minded, yet when it comes to your belief and possibly your vices, you are very much as closed minded as the LDS you complain about.
As for what CSA stands for, I stated many years ago, when contributing to other boards such as MAD, CARM and others that there is a real lack of common sense apologists who contribute anywhere. I know I am going to make many of my friends angry by saying this, but they simply have left spirituality behind and have lost sight to what God needs.
If the Word of Wisdom is a tool to gain spiritual wisdom, why wouldn't someone take the time to really follow it? I will tell you why, it is because substances such as caffeine hinder a person's ability to seek true spiritual receptivity.

I see along with spouting unsupported nonsense about the brain and overblown dangers of caffeine, you're also having trouble understanding the phrase "common sense".

I feel there are dangers in caffeine in which science may not be able to prove. I have seen people who have had trouble with spirituality gain a much greater spirituality by getting off of caffeinated beverages. I am sorry if this upsets you. I would guess by your screen-name you are involved with coffee, possibly working at starbucks and would hate to see the truth about caffeine be exposed.
Please will you respond to my question about the profile of people you are using for the experiment (see earlier post).
Also, and I'm being genuine, I have seen a significant increase in Christ like qualities from people who leave the LDS Church. By the same measure that you use on caffeine, it can be said that Mormonism gets in the way of Christ like attributes.

Morality is doing what is right, regardless of what you are told. Religion is doing what you are told, regardless of what is right.
