Interesting article. My wife's ward got the hard sell on Friends of Scouting. Not only did the scouts come to your door, they made the sales presentation during meetings at church. I don't know if I've seen the church push an issue so hard other than when the gay marriage issue gets on a local election ballot somewhere. Any idea why the church is pushing the Friends of Scouting donation drive so hard? Is someone getting a kick back?

Re: LDS Church and the Friends of Scouting sales push
Could be tied into the Boy Scouts active discrimination against gay or non-believing (atheist) young men.
It is sad that this Church member came bearing the truth and was released by the Stake President. What a shame for us to be hooked into funding drives designed to line the pockets of BSA executives. The fact that the facilities are so much better at the Church camps for girls, let's us know that little or no money actually passes its way into the boy scouts program, instead remaining in the pockets of the over paid executives. Well, its is good that the released and possibly soon to be punished (for speaking to the Tribune) member had both inspiration and discernment to realize this flim-flammery.
It is also a shame that many young men are lost to the Church because they simply have no interest in the scouting program.
