cliques here preventing learning

abman,
I think you'll need to be meaner and nastier, and have to start being deceptive, if you want to be criticized more. ;-)

Seriously, I am fascinated by the underlined statement. Could you elaborate.

Why should I elaborate for you, you poo-poo head?

What I mean is that I often feel that people here do not criticize my thoughts as much as would be useful for me because they generally like me. That means I'm not challenged as much as I could be and get less of a chance to work hard and learn.

To elaborate a bit, I used to get a lot more criticism and disagreements on this board a few years back. Now it seems that the targets tended to be Nehor (who left) and to some extent Simon.

Screech and Buffalo were doing a good number on me a little while ago, but have backed off. In the further past, I got more challenges from Sethbag and a few others. Back in the old fariboards days I would often look for threads with The Dude or Tarski just so I could have fun challenging them. Here I had lots of fun challenging JohnStuartMill.

Part of the difference may be that I've just lost interest in most of the old topics. Still, I do pipe in once in a while. When I do, I rarely feel like I get much criticism. Maybe my critics have lost interest too? If so, it may be a shame. However, I do sometimes feel like people try too hard not to offend those they like and sometimes that may cost more than we realize. On the other hand, continual criticism might just drive someone away.
That's General Leo. He could be my friend if he weren't my enemy.

Asbestosman, I think you are seeking interaction rather than disrespect. Those individuals you mentioned who provided good interaction in the past rarely post here now.

For disrespect alone, try talking about personal spiritual experiences. At least that worked for Nehor.

It's not enough to just talk about personal spiritual experiences. You have to declare all their dirty supernatural details and treat others with disdain (like they're the crazy ones) for not believing in your outrageous fantasies.

That's what worked for Nehor.
God belief is for people who don't want to live life on the universe's terms.

I would ask for evidence for this assertion, but I know it's impossible.
