Faster Particles Causes Glee Outbreak at MDD
Einstein's physics being "disproved" has brought glee to the Mormon Dialogue board. It is thought that by being the first one to break the story of faster than light particles, Zakuska will be among the first to hie to Kolob once these particles become available to scientists at the Maxwell Institute for Advanced Astrophysics and Apologetics.
"This proves it is all true", an inside source murmured. "We expect delegates from CERN to be arriving within the week to work out terms for their mass conversion."

E=mc^2 has been overturned .... hence Joseph Smith was right that the earth is only 6K years old.

I don't see what's so funny and entertaining about people being reasonably wary of a scientific claim that has yet to go through the process of additional verification.

Agreed. Findings of this potential importance should not have been made public until they could be independently confirmed or disconfirmed by at least one other laboratory.
Remember "Cold Fusion" from BYU and the University of Utah?
(Make that two other laboratories.)

I'm fine with them making an announcement. What's odd to me is people gleefully rubbing their hands over the fact that people would like the results confirmed before they assent to the claims of these initial findings. Part of the point that Zakuska is trying to make, I think, is that scientists are dogmatic. Certainly some are. But a lot those expressing skepticism here would just like to see further confirmation before accepting these new findings. And I don't see what about that is dogmatic to the point of being worthy of the kind of ridicule Zakuska is implying.

Whew! I can finally apostize from my faith in science, now that it has been disproven. I was sick and tired of the dogmatism of scientists. Now I can be free of the clutches of religion and science.

From "Old Soul" in response to my post on a similar thread over at postmormon.org
My friend who's worked at Fermi-lab and CERN had this to say about it on Facebook:
"With the FTL neutrinos, given only one experiment I would suspect a small elusive systematic over true new physics. Wait for confirmation."
and one of his colleagues had this to say in response:
"Oh, and the CDF result should've never been published. Their own experiment had people who weren't seeing the effect, let alone other experiments... :-/"
So yes, this announcement was very premature.

I find it hilarious that the flat earthers think that any time science advances it proves that science is fatally flawed, and that, somehow, by implication, their superstition is also true. :D

LDS (or pretty well any other religion) apologist reaction to piece of evidence that might, if true, overturn a fundamental claim of their religion:
Physicist reaction to piece of evidence that might, if true, overturn a fundamental claim of currently accepted physical theory:
Spot the difference?
Oh Lord no! This can't be true! God is testing our faith? But since we KNOW (with every fiber of our being) that The Faith is true, we can be sure this will turn out not to be true in the end. Maybe if we suggest it was really a tapir?
Physicist reaction to piece of evidence that might, if true, overturn a fundamental claim of currently accepted physical theory:
Wow! That is astonishing! If that was true the universe would be even stranger than we thought it was, and the field would be open for some fascinating remaking of all our theories (maybe I might be the one to succeed, and be even more famous than Newton and Einstein?). But before we get too excited, let's check this out thoroughly. So far any effect that seems to flatly contradict that theory has always been shown to be illusory, and this effect may go the way of all the others ... but all the same, you never know ...
Spot the difference?

The reason for this reaction is that these are not people genuinely interested in the further development of human knowledge but merely fans clapping because they think their side scored a point.
