This is SOOO wrong... Such an abuse of power..

Of course the 18 year old kid is going to attempt to "exercise" his pretend powers.
I am certain the CPR performed by two trained EMTs was the only thing that brought the kid back to life.
The only thing that saved this kid's life was LUCK that the two men there were EMTs.
God!! this is SUCH an abuse of power. Foisting this upon the trusting young minds of the youth.
Had they not succeeded in reviving the boy, no harm no foul, he is on a friggin mission to the poor saps not born Mormon who died and are now trapped in the moat around the Mormon kingdom.
What next?? Stories of magic underwear that keep a rich guy from getting burned while on his yacht??

CPR doesn't revive people. When it needs to be done people aren't breathing and their hearts have stopped. It doesn't bring them back, it breaks their ribs and keeps blood circulating through the body while waiting for real medical help to arrive. What was described in the video was like the TV fantasy version of CPR that brings people back to a healthy status. It just doesn't work that way.
As soon as you concern yourself with the 'good' and 'bad' of your fellows, you create an opening in your heart for maliciousness to enter. Testing, competing with, and criticizing others weaken and defeat you. - O'Sensei

Thanks for that clarification.
Still does not change the fact that the priesthood blessing did not do squat for the kid.
This story is nothing more than a classic exercise in confirmation bias and LDS Inc is brandishing it like a irresponsible gun loving redneck who just got his first pistol.

Use of any magical healing spells in an emergency should be punishable by jail time. That would accomplish two things - it would prevent time wasted on nonsense during an emergency when actual effective care should be given, and it would give believers that lusty sense of persecution they all crave.

I agree. Teaching kids this nonsense is a kind of intellectual abuse.
Do Mormons really think that if the 18 year old hadn't performed the healing ritual, the kid would have died? Seriously, how stupid do you have to be to buy this crap?
ETA: by the way, did newbie elder have his vial of canola on hand? How is this a miracle if he didn't have his magical vegetable oil?

God belief is for people who don't want to live life on the universe's terms.

It bothers me, too =/
When I was in high school, I had a friend that died... At the time he was taking the missionary discussions. While he was in the hospital, the parents refused to let the missionaries perform a blessing on him. I had a friend that told me she was sure that if the missionaries performed the blessing, my friend would have lived. That comment disgusted me to no end.
Also, my husband had Hydrocephalus and needed to have emergency surgery... To this day, he tells every one the reason why he lives is because he had three priesthood blessings.
No. The reason why your surgery was so successful was because you had a competent doctor. With out the doctor, you would have died.

Well, all you had to do was write down a number. And you wrote ..Threeve. A combination of three and five. Simply stunning. And you wagered..Texas with a dollar sign in front of it. I'm speechless.

Nah. I have friends that are EMTs and I work in the medical field, as well. The list of people that have been saved by CPR without divine intervention must be in the hundreds of thousands by now.
Revived patients are always transported to a medical facility after CPR. Without the CPR (even by atheists) they would not have lived to transport.
Another "faith promoting" story without foundation. If the boy had no CPR from professionals (just a prayer by a priesthood holder) and had jumped up ready to finish the game, you might have an interesting story.
This, or any other post that I have made or will make in the future, is strictly my own opinion and consequently of little or no value.

"These two men, both rather miraculously emergency medical technicians, immediately started a life against death effort in CPR."
I love it. See, even if the priesthood blessing does not get the credit, there was still a miracle.
Did you notice that the point of the talk was to exhort young priesthood holders to "be ye clean, that bear the vessels of the Lord"? I wonder what he meant by that exactly? What uncleanness was Elder Holland urging them to avoid, presumably because lack of 'cleanness' might stand in the way of their being able to work life-saving miracles through a priesthood blessing?
Hmmm ....
[Edited to correct typo 'exert' to 'exhort']

Zadok:
I did not have a faith crisis. I discovered that the Church was having a truth crisis.

That's the problem with this supernatural stuff, it doesn't really solve anything. It's a placeholder for ignorance.

Maybe he was saying that Melchisedec Priests should wash their hands well before laying them on.
