How will we know what in Conference is revelation?

If it's officially published, it's official doctrine.

Not necessarily. Anything can be retracted and denied if it's embarrassing, no matter how official it is.

Please clarify "officially published".

Which of the current books, magazines, pamphlets, and periodicals are considered "officially published"?

Generally, the First Presidency issues official doctrinal declarations when there is a general misunderstanding of the doctrine on the part of many people. Therefore, the Church teaches many principles which are accepted as doctrines but which the First Presidency has seen no need to declare in an official pronouncement.
(from LDS.org)

My question, how do the First Presidency find out what the members are thinking? (don't answer here I'll start a separate thread for it)

I loved how John Larson phrased it.

When approached by a TBM that is overjoyed that we have a living prophet who actually speaks to GOD, he says something to the effect of, "That is truly AMAZING!! What are your 3 favorite revelations passed down through the prophets?"

I've tried this, and it typically ends up being stuff that any high school guidance counsellor would say.

Top 3 revelations

*Don't live beyond your means (but pay 90% of your net income to the church!)
*Don't watch porn (remember that women walking down the street in tube tops count as porn)
*Watch out for scams (especially relevant if you have a lot of Utah Mormon neighbors)

If Jesus appears in the flesh, descending in a shaft of light, with wounds in hands and feet, then I suggest you listen. Otherwise its just the teaching of men.

And you would know that by official publication. Same thing.

Sure. They will be published.

Therefore, the Church teaches many principles which are accepted as doctrines but which the First Presidency has seen no need to declare in an official pronouncement.

Incorrect. Everything the Church publishes is official doctrine unless otherwise noted. See
