A request for Shades

Post by _Scottie »

What would it take to upgrade to a better version of the board?

This bug where the scrolling doesn't work right in the main body textbox when using IE is just ridiculous. I have to compose some of my longer posts in Word and the copy/paste them onto the board.

Also, the fact that it takes a good 30+ seconds to post anything is fairly annoying.

Here's what it would take:

Keene, the board software guru and my "boss" in the MormonDiscussions hierarchy, is reticient to work any of his magic for free. He makes pretty good money at being the top I.T. guy at the company for which he works, so he won't do anything unless he gets paid at the same rate.

So, you'd have to send him an e-mail at the following link:

memberlist.php?mode=email&u=2

. . . and ask him how much/long it would take.

I'm no software genius, so I can't really do any such thing myself, unfortunately.

What about moving the board to a hosting company?

It's on a hosting company. Keene has all the FTP codes to the, uh, code.

So... you're forever in Keen's debt?

Shades, this is your board. Every good manager knows to get documentation from their IT guy. The ftp site is ftp ://ftp .mormondiscussions.com:21 (on most browsers you don't have to use the :21). You should get documentation for all passwords for your site.

Just some friendly advice.

Is Keen even still alive?

Liz or myself would happily do this for free. I am sure Gadianton or ABMan would as well. There are a few IT gurus on this board.

Edit: Scottie and stem... I am not able to reproduce your issue. What version of IE are you using?

Edit2: To de-parse hyperlink, lest someone think I'm trying to "hack" something.

Doc Shades, Keep this liar away from your web server.

Hey Scottie since you find value in posting here, why not pony up a few bucks?

Is $20 too much to ask?

Srly.

I remember Keene from the postmormon site. He has been out of the church for a while. I am surprised that he wouldn't want to give something for his cause. Oh, well, such is life.

Technically, that's not true. It's Mav's board. He pays for it. They merely allow me to administer it however I please.

Is Keen even still alive?

Yep. He's just kept very busy with his job.

Liz or myself would happily do this for free. I am sure Gadianton or ABMan would as well. There are a few IT gurus on this board.

In early October of 2006, Negative made a mistake and wiped out the entire database. We had to start all over again from scratch (no pun intended): 0 threads, 0 members, etc. Since then, Keene has been very stingy with who he lets access the database itself.

Edit: Scottie and stem... I am not able to reproduce your issue. What version of IE are you using?

When I use Internet Explorer, I have their issue. SCOTTIE and STEMELBOW: If you use Mozilla Firefox, you won't have this problem.

From what I see Shades is using a hacked version of a phpBB theme called Revival. It hasn't been updated for years. On top of that, this is probably phpBB 3.0 or something being it is dated 2006 by the source code, and 2007 in the copyright. That is out of date as 3.0.9 is now available.

Upgrading would require upgrading both phpBB, the mySQL tables and the theme - which may or may not include the chat features.

Upgrading right now would break the theme, plain and simple. You'd end up back with the original phpBB theme until you could wrangle this one back into shape, or find someone who has taken "Revival" and moved on with it.
