How many of you have fake cried?

While blessing my daughter, I had a fake pause like I had to re-compose myself. Everyone told me how moved they were and how powerful the spirit was during that blessing.

When speaking at my brothers funeral, I had a long pause, then said that the spirit just spoke to me and told me that I should tell the congergation that I went to the temple yesterday and prayed about his well-being (because he was a suicide), and that I received a strong feeling that everything was okay! I did go to the temple, and I did pray about him, but I never received anything that made me think he was okay... I had several people come up after and tell that I touched them and what a spiritual talk it was!

I "choked up" once while bearing my testimony in priesthood when I was 2nd counsellor.

I think I have a gift for the fake pause. Never got me laid though... :(

I don't know what it is about me but I can't get over the difficulty some people face in this world, their wonderful resolute spirit and all. it brings me to tears. I wish there was something I could do for folks. I'm very much nothing in the whole scheme of things, as they say.

Related question: how many of you have engaged in "holy breathing"? That is, punctuating your halting, ponderous sentences during a prayer or blessing with a heavy exhalation of breath? As in, "Our Father, we plead *heavy exhale* that you would be with those *heavy exhale* who have lost their way *heavy exhale*"

A lot of people seem to think it adds gravitas to their prayers. What it actually adds is condensation on the microphone.

I knew a guy who did it everytime he gave a prayer or talk in church. Most people who knew him could tell it was fake but there were some girls that thought it was sweet. I think it must of worked for him. Plus I think he did it for leadership roles in the church.

Out of curiosity, may I ask why you proclaimed you received a strong feeling that everything was okay, when in fact you hadn't? Was it an attempt to make those in attendance feel better about the situation? Was it an attempt to make yourself feel better?

Why is it that at a closer look, so often the "spirit" many speak of is nothing more than the embellishments (fake crying and cadence included), delusions, and even outright lies belonging to a herd mentality?

By the way, I'm terribly sorry about your brother :(
And I sincerely hope that even if you couldn't find peace that day within the temple, that you've been able to find it since.

I have cried, but never for LDS Inc, only for things that mattered to me, things I knew were real.

I never understood people who would cry about Jesus and Mormon crap.

I really don't care to hear strangers cry over how much they love their kid/spouse/family either. Save it for when you are close to them.
