You know, sort of like how lots of people exercise, even though only a small subset of them actually enjoy it.

Just put in cream (they make a fat-free now) and artificial sweetener. It will taste better, you’ll still get the caffeine and be wide awake full of energy --- until the caffeine wears off! (I don't know how they get "fat-free" cream. --probably food science).

Thanks Jersey Girl.

Apparently, “wine, strong drinks, tobacco and hot drinks…” were at least tolerated if not accepted prior to circa 1833 in these groups.

“…the early brethren using tobacco in their meetings…” was common previously.

As we know, religious admonitions and requirements change over time and in particular situations. Of course the latest idea/doctrine is always the correct one replacing the previous one.

As I recall, some Baptist History pre-dates 1833. This site has multiple links and many dates.

So after staying up until 3a.m. the other night because I am not accustom to caffeine (Dr Pepper). I had to wake up at 6:00a.m. yesterday for a flight and meeting in San Diego. I slept on the plane and felt bad because I did not get enough sleep.

I decided to test the effects of caffeine and purchased a RedBull (Someone called it Hair of the Dog) at the San Diego airport and took a taxi to my meeting. I talked so fast and uncontrollable that I probably made a fool of myself. The weird thing about this whole experience was I think I was able to interact quite well in this meeting while maintain a text messaging conversation with some other people.

After these morning meetings and lunch, I headed up the freeway checked into my hotel and attended a session at the San Diego temple. Probably the worst experience in the temple I had ever had. I could barely keep awake, I caught myself snoring and was very embarrassed. I think if I had more caffeine I could have stayed awake, but at this point I think I will stick to not drinking caffeinated drinks.

After the session I went to my hotel, slept for a couple hours and then headed back downtown for a dinner meeting with some clients. Anyway, I can see how the intake of caffeine can be exhilarating. It was as if my brain was functioning on all cylinders, but I think I will stick with V8 juice.

CSA,

Recognize that drug testing is a SCIENCE, what you’re doing is experimentation.
It’s NOT recommended. Not only that, you’re ingesting something with which you appear to be entirely unfamiliar (based on your religious indoctrination and subject title). Effects are NOT instant after consuming caffeine.

Rather than consume a beverage that had caffeine, it would be to your great benefit to READ about it and how it affects people. I strongly suggested that kind of research previously and several others have referred you to STUDIES which analyze effects of caffeine in individuals. The STUDIES have already been done. You, as a single individual, can’t do STUDIES on the effects of any drug.

Can you understand this? Let’s keep objectivity. When the polio vaccine was FIRST introduced, Dr. Salk could not be certain that the vaccine would work. It was an EXPERIMENT, but one which he had researched before using it in human trials. Please read Polio Vaccine. The time was 1952 when the first testing took place. Human trials began in 1957. According to the link which I gave you here: “The two vaccines have eliminated polio from most countries in the world, and reduced the worldwide incidence from an estimated 350,000 cases in 1988 to 1,652 cases in 2007.”

The above quotation is from the source/link. In short, research requires time, objective testing, and COMPALINATION OF DATA.

In the case of caffeine, the testing has already been done. Personal experimentation is not recommended. However, in the case of caffeine, you are only duplicating the results which are ALREADY KNOWN.

It’s not a good idea to eat or drink anything before boarding a flight – unless you have considerable experience with flying and how just that exposure will affect you.

Generally, as people drink a caffeinated beverage on a regular basis, the effect of caffeine tends to diminish somewhat. If you have been a person who NEVER previously have consumed caffeine, doing what you describe was not smart. (You have most likely been unharmed by the experience, and you have not “proved” anything. You just know how you felt.)

Based on your conduct here, you should stick to “V8 juice.”

At the very least, if you want to try coffee or any other beverage with caffeine, try it at 8 A.M. (or whenever you get up to start your day and consume it with FOOD.)

I probably went a little overboard even with a single bottle of Dr Pepper and a RedBull the next morning. Probably not very dangerous to most people who are used to caffeine. After the meeting with the Bishop the other night I just felt I was being too critical over the whole Word of Wisdom interpretation. So I picked up a Dr Pepper as an act of defiance, but later felt it was really a celebration. I decided that I needed to be more open-minded and accepting of others and whatever they choose to drink, smoke, chew or whatever.

I think these very steps you have taken lead to Osbornism.

Matthew 15:11 Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man.
Matthew 15:17 Do not ye yet understand, that whatsoever entereth in at the mouth goeth into the belly, and is cast out into the draught?

As an atheist, I hate to cite Bible verses...

That whole wordofwisdom is a stupid bunch of stupid prescriptions, reinterpreted, misinterpreted and misused.

...and I hate to cite D&C as well...
17 Nevertheless, wheat for man, and corn for the ox, and oats for the horse, and rye for the fowls and for swine, and for all beasts of the field, and barley for all useful animals, and for mild drinks, as also other grain.
Next beer, please.
