Rigdon stuck around Ohio gaining converts to a different religion then the one he must have previously created with Pratt. Pratt left to find a puppet to install in place so their designs wouldn't be uncovered, and the blame would be put on this stooge. A few years later, the followers of this new religion would happen upon Rigdon and company, thus adding substantially to the conversion pool.

And this did this because...

And then of course Joseph Smith who was known as a money digger was chosen. He then went about getting 11 others involved without the consent of Pratt and Rigdon. Or did he get their permission? And of course, Joseph Smith had to get his wife involved too and his sisters. So the pool widens and deepens.

And Joseph needed to memorize the Rigdon's manuscript and put his head in a hat to recite it.

I have to admire you Dale. You never give up. I suppose that it is a good thing. I said to you a few years ago, If the church is a fraud it should be exposed. But so far, nothing has happened. I am still waiting and waiting and waiting....You need to hurry up before I am six feet under.

I can't speak for Mormons, but I do recall something once said
in RLDS Sunday School ---> "The Church is mostly true -- it has
a few flaws -- a few of the old leaders sinned now and then --
like King David and Jonah did -- but it is far more true than it is false."

I try to compare that to Mormonism -- (which evidently claims to
be 100% true). But it is that sort of viewpoint that causes me to
pause and ask if Jesus Christ is truly micro-managing the LDS
affairs? In that sense of the term, at least, I cannot believe it is
100% true, divine and perfect, in its essential doctrines.
