Why do missionaries invite people to watch Conference?
Srsly.
It’s hard to come up with things more boring than going to an LDS building and watching General Conference via satellite. Why not spring this once they are in the church, instead of giving people a glimpse of the sheer boredom that awaits them?

I think, because missionaries spend two years without access to decent media of any kind (print, film, music, etc), they think GC really is interesting. They're starved for entertainment.
The only time I didn't fall asleep during conference was on my mish.

yeah mission was something different. It was are only time to watch TV :) Plus it was a break from the missionary work.
Sometimes I thougth investigators may be able to feel that these men were actually apostles and prophets. I knew it was boring but I thought they might be able to feel something from it.

When I was 15, I invited my then-girlfriend (who was also LDS) to come watch General Conference at my ward. Then we went for a walk, and then we went back to my house, put on a movie, and made out for a couple of hours. The latter led to the discovery (no pun intended) that she was wearing a thong under her skirt.
The OP was about inviting people to watch conference, right?

Re: Why do missionaries invite people to watch Conference?
I remember my companion and I were teaching a new family, a black family, in England, just outside of London. We specifically decided together not to invite them to Conference. We were worried they would catch on to something that we didn't know how to explain.
Probably a good idea. Or not.
We baptized them a couple of months later.

So you are saying GC should fall into the meat category rather than a dairy product? Sounds smart to me.

It seems conference would be a risky thing to take investigators to. It is really a time for members to be told how awesome the gospel is and how wrong everyone else is. Investigators might not be ready to hear that the religion their parents raised them in is dumb. The way Monson rolls his eyes and illicits laughter from the congregation when he mimics what others believe can be a turn off to some investigators I would think.

It's pretty impressive, Darth, that you were able to make only a walk and a movie wash the bad taste of conference out of her mouth enough to put her in "the mood."
A mere 10 minutes of GC can make me impotent for days, and I'll “F” anything that moves.
