I don't want to be mean by being specific. But, seriously, you don't know exactly who I am talking about?

I had more than one individual in mind. Some seemingly more wacky than others.
I don't mean to discourage anyone's posting either. Many are fun to read.
Just making an observation.

Yes I do. But I am on assignment from the SCMC to make reports and run interference. I also work for Danite intelligence.

I've often thought that Mormons I know in real life are never as extreme or outrageous as those whose postings I read on the Internet. I think that fora such as these just attract the zealous and unhinged. Normal folk don't have time for it.

I know, this doesn't say much for me, either.

Actually, I don't think it's due to attracting crazies (present company excluded)... not entirely, anyway. I think it's more a matter of people tending to be less shy about posting what they really think anonymously then they would be saying it out loud in person. Anonymity is what makes these boards both interesting and valuable.

And let's face it; you'd have to make a maniacal yahoo not to appreciate the value of anonymity.

Perhaps the trouble is not an increase of wacky participants as much as it is a decrease of intelligent participants?

Blixa, Stak, Trevor, Honor and other thoughtful, substantive posters have largely gone missing, it seems. Our signal to noise ratio is way off kilter. I'm doing my share to improve the situation by posting as infrequently as possible, but for a real fix, we need the return of our best lost posters. If they don't come back soon, I'll lose interest in reading the board and be reduced to chewing gum for something to do.

Yes, but others have made a reappearance lately, like Lucretia M, Sethbag, Tarski, Chap, beastie and I even saw a Dude post somewhere recently. These things are always cyclical.

I wish silentkid, John Larson and guy sajer would come back (I'm sure there are others I'd be delighted to see that I'm currently forgetting).
