I want to freeze my head!

Post by _Rambo »

Lately, I have been telling people this and for some reason they think I am joking around. I'm thinking about freezing my head just before I die. Then when scientist figure out how to replace my old body with a electronic one I will come back alive with the same brain and memories I have now. Then when I get sick of living forever I will finally click the off switch.

I use to not think of this because as a Mormon I thought we would live forever. Now I don't think there is an afterlife so this is the best thing I can think of. Unless has anyone found the fountain of youth?

That's gross. You'll have to freeze your whole body, not just your head.

No fountain of youth. Just enjoy it while you can!

Why would I have to freeze my whole body? Couldn't I have a mechanical body for my head? Kind of like the borg?

Seriously, if you don't believe in a after life then it would be nice to have the option to live forever.

Maybe stem cell research will go so far that they can recreate your body.

Then why do you need to keep your whole head? Why not have them just freeze your brain in a jar?

Are you sure that your brain would hold on to your current conciousness? Cuz, I doubt it. Look at people with brain injuries. They often change drastically. I don't think you'd unfreeze the same at all.

Good idea! I might as well do that. I would have a robot face but I guess that might be better than having an old face forever.

hum I never thought of that. I think it's still worth a try though.

You really don't like my idea, do you just me?

Freezer burn! Ever tasted a steak that's been frozen for too long? Smells funny and tastes worse. It's still edible, but who would want to?

Maybe merging with the cosmos is a better choice.

I think it is hilarious. I don't think it'll work, but it is a fun, fresh thread topic!

Interestingly enough, Rambo is not alone. A lot of folks are interested in such "life extension" strategies.

There are companies, including the one listed below, that will contract with you to do this immediately upon your demise for something between about $40 (head only) and $120K or so (whole body).

I happen to know more about this company than I would care to admit to those who know me personally
