Droopy,

I can accept your claim that one can be a disciple of Mises and Hayek without being a disciple of Rothbard and I see no necessary connection between "anarcho-capitalism" and ABCT, but my CFR still stands for an example of a distinguished scholar who rejects anarcho-capitalism. You and EA found three Reconstructionists and that wasn't enough to convince you that Reconstructionism played a significant role at the Institute, how about a single anti-Rothbardian?

Droopy wrote:The real contribution of Austrian economics is the whole idea of human action (Praxology) and its meaning for political economy, its theory of money and credit, and the relationship between economic policy and actual economic/social behavior.

Why do you subscribe to Austrian theories of money or policy rather than Chicago theories? What convinced you that the one is true and the other false?

How do you apply the principles of the Austrian School to your own, personal economic situation? I.e., what is it that you do for a living, and how do you find the principles of North, Von Mises, etc. applicable in your day-to-day economic life?

An economic life based upon thrift, industry, and saving for a rainy day, living within one's means, avoiding debt, paying for what one acquires out of existing funds and being very careful about using credit, and productive work as the basis of prosperity and affluence. In other words, pretty much what you would find in Providing the Lord's Way.

And what is it that you do for a living?

Gad -

Read the thread Droopy is referring to and his recounting of it. You might find that they aren't exactly in harmony.

Have you now.

Well let's read my first post on the subject.
The Mises paleolibertarian crowd tends to attract both more traditional libertarians often with some conservative social views and ultra-conservative theocrats. The latter are very fascist. The former are quite the opposite. Yet hard money Austrian economics animates both.

Or when I later said:
I pointed to him as the extreme end of the theocratic wing that clearly exists within the Austrian crowd. If Gary North got his way, there would be mass executions on a scale that would make Hitler look like a joke. I, quite accurately, described that subgroup as being quite fascist.

I'm clearly referring to a subculture within Austrian paleolibertarian circles. Which exists. Undoubtedly. You try to refute this by pointing out this isn't true of all Austrians, which misses the point badly.

Regarding Bachmann's reading list, I think Understanding the Times by David A. Noebel qualifies nicely.

I'll tell you that as soon as you tell me where you received your advanced degrees (especially the PhD) and in what concentration.

For most of my adult life, I did landscape and lawn care work (which I can no longer do for physical reasons), but, regardless of what it was or is, that is my philosophy on the matter, and the way I have always tried to manage my personal financial life, or a reasonable fascimile thereof.

I absolutely respect your work, and what you've done with your life. Good on you, brother.
