The Union Tax

Post by _bcspace »

Ready to Pay More for Childcare?

If union bosses get their way, we will all be forced to pay more for childcare. That's because union bosses want to force your childcare providers to join their union, or pay union dues even if they aren’t made to join. Providers who object won't have a choice - ALL Minnesota providers will be forced to join the union and/or pay their dues, if the unions get their way.

The Association of Federal, State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) and Service Employees International Union (SEIU) have presented Governor Mark Dayton with union authorization cards and were pressuring him to issue an executive order unilaterally recognizing the union. A group of independent childcare providers have drawn media attention to the situation and the resulting public outrage has at least temporarily derailed the union’s efforts, but the push is still on and the governor recently said he was still considering his options.

The state legislature responded by holding a public hearing to determine whether the governor even had the authority to issue any executive order creating a union for Minnesota’s 11,000 home-based childcare providers. The conclusion reached by Senate legal counsel is that he does not. But that's not stopping the unions from pressing ahead anyway.

And of course this applies across the board to other industries and existing unions. You pay higher prices to marginally benefit a few workers, pay union bosses' huge salaries, and make substantial donations to the Democratic Party. Minnesota and indeed the USA and the world needs a Chris Christie.
