Another woman next to Ronald A. Rasband (of the Seventy) who presided over the Phoenix, Arizona groundbreaking here.

In the second photo, definitely. The caption listed her as a local community leader of some sort.

In the first photo, I have no idea. She's not on the Philadelphia City Council. One of the articles I found reads, "Those present from the city included: Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter, City Councilman Darrell Clark, and neighbors of the temple’s site at 1739."

I am a woman who happens to open doors for men and women. It would be sexist to only open them for women. I especially open them for people who are carrying many items in their arms. I thought that was just common curtesy.

If your dad is still alive you can ask him about the good ol' days when men would open the door for the ladies out of respect. But then again, the guy would also open car doors for ladies too. But back then, ladies were ladies and wanted to be treated as such.

I learned these manners at school and by tradition from the home. It was common for men to open doors for ladies and give them common respect. And of course, we learned to open doors for both men and women who were carrying packages or who needed help. If I would hold the door open for some guy who was not carrying packages or something, he would find it very strange. Remember when one holds open the door the person allows the other person to go ahead of him.

But yea, you are the reason why I wouldn't hold the door open for women of your generation. Your generation has no understanding of being a women and special treatment from men because you are a woman.

Yea, I am guilty of opening the doors for women of my generation. Most would think me a chimp if I did not open the door for them and let them go through first. I would be judged not to have manners. So, I am sexist on demand.

But for women of just me generation, I would go through first and let them open their own doors. I certainly don't want to be sexist.

why me ~ This may surprise you, but my husband is kind of an old-fashioned guy in some respects. He likes getting doors for me, for example. I don't really mind his displays of chivalry here or there, so long as they don't get ridiculous or inconvenient.

Where I draw the line is the idea of a man making decisions on a woman's behalf without consulting her, "for her own good." That isn't gentlemanly and it isn't chivalrous. It's paternalistic and infantilizing. If that's what being a "gentleman" means, then I'm glad gentlemen are a dying breed.
