Another Mormon Myth Bites the Dust

Post by _Everybody Wang Chung »

If any of you have grown up in the Church, I'm sure you have heard the myth that the SLC Temple's east doors are sealed awaiting Jesus' Second Coming. I'm not sure where this myth originated, but a simple search can find this myth perpetuated all over the internet.

The other day, I was walking by the temple and lo and behold, the east doors were wide open while cleaning crews were bringing out bags of trash:

Either this myth is busted, or the Second Coming officially started on Tuesday.

"Throwing out the trash" is a pretty good metaphor here.

Astounding! Wonderful symbolism there.

I've never heard that myth, but that's pretty funny.

Is Jesus one of the custodians taking the trash out?

Only if he got married without telling anyone.

I doubt Jesus has His green card. The Church is pretty particular about only hiring legals.

Maybe the myth originated from the architectural gaffe of not including steps leading to that door.

Brigham Young probably wanted to leave plenty of room for the elevators and A/C.

That wasn't a gaffe. They were just confused because they heard a stairway to heaven was from the devil.
