Is this behaviour wrong? Mitt believes in abstaining totally from alcohol, but believes in having it in his home to distribute to guests.
If this behaviour is okay at what point does it become not okay? Beer - okay Tea/Coffee - okay Legal high's - okay? Soft porn video's - okay?
Don't get me wrong, I'm not for a second suggesting Mitt would distribute the second two items on the list. I'm merely asking where is the line drawn on encouraging others to do something you don't believe in doing?
When you cross into breaking the law, I guess.
I'm actually impressed by this Mitt story. Why should he impose his own personal restrictions on others if they don't hurt anyone?
I've been saying for ages that I don't care what people believe as long as they don't try to force it on others. So good for Mitt.
I do not like Mitt. But I think this does show some maturity on his part. On the other hand, Mitt gave beers because he wanted favorable articles written about him by these reporters. I bet if he had a city-league (not church) softball team over to the house after a game, he wouldn't have beers for them--because there would be nothing in doing so for Mitt, as there is with reporters.

I don't doubt he was doing it for political gain, but I still think it was a decent move.
Besides, he was probably handing out American beer, so it's not like he was actually pushing alcohol.
God belief is for people who don't want to live life on the universe's terms.

huh?
I think he's asking for a scriptural reference to a "commandment." There isn't one. There's a scripture known as the "Word of Wisdom" canonized in section 89 of the Doctrine & Covenants, but, ironically, beer is on the approved list of things to drink. You can certainly find "unofficial" sources (as bcspace likes to remind us) in the form of pronouncements at General Conference and such, but no commandment anywhere. Even the temple recommend question just asks if you keep the Word of Wisdom, and it's up to the Bishop and SP to determine whether drinking a beer should keep someone from getting a recommend. So, where are you, as LDS, "commanded" to not drink beer?

Mitt Romney's father kept drinks in the house that were offered to guests.
There was probably some discretion used, I'd bet. If his young grand children were in attendance, I'm guessing they might be less likely to serve alcohol. If it were a situation where people might get drunk, I'd think it less likely he'd serve it.
I'd do the same. When I would not have alcohol as a host is when young children are around, and when the situation could facilitate someone getting hammered.

Do you have a first hand account of what the elder Romney's alcohol serving practices were, or are you just projecting your own sensibilities onto him?
If I was there I would drink Mitt's beer, a lot of Mitt's beer if I had a dedicated driver.
My stock in Mitt went way up, this doesn't mean I would vote for him.
My guess is........
Mitt knows a lot about:
shamoooooozing business finance law politics
BUT
little about Mormonism.
